I have some doubt regarding pf contribution... Say for example.. 12% of my base salary is 600 which gets deducted from my salary.. on the flip side.. the company has to contribute 600 to my pf (which is actually deducted from my salary only like already part of CTC)?. So my question again is that.. the company contributes 600 as well? PwC

Tenure here in California is usually granted after two years of successful teaching. Once we earn tenure, it gives us job protection, which means we're not as easily let go unless there's a good cause like misconduct or unsatisfactory performance. It's a bit more stable, but it can also be a double-edged sword when schools are trying to make cuts. Charter and private schools don’t typically offer the same type of tenure, so it's a lot more flexible there. It’s definitely a different system than what you're used to in Florida.

I've always wondered what tenure was for. Is it like a contract?
Tenure also protects us from the whims of rouge administrators that would fire at will if they could. I would not want to teach without it.

I've not heard anything about it being here, other than the mention that some of the older teachers who have been teaching a long time have it
Wow! It is sacrosanct here, Do you have a union?
In my district you’re in the mentoring program for your first 3 years with an optional 4th year if you or the district think it’s necessary! After 4 years you get tenure - it’s not like a huge deal? Idk for me it was announced at a board meeting and they sent an email out congratulating me - it was nice! I’m sure there are extra protections I get now but otherwise my job hasn’t looked very different from before tenure and after 🤷♀️
We call it “professional status” here, not tenure, but it means basically the same thing. In the first 3 years of being hired, you can be let go for any reason admin sees fit. You will be the first to go if layoffs are needed. If the district likes you, at the end of the third year, you can be awarded “professional status”. Once you have this, it is more difficult for you to be laid off. Seniority applies during layoffs, but you can’t be let go without documented cause and proof that admin tried to offer support, but you “weren’t a good fit”. Our district got a reputation for hiring any fresh out of school teacher, keeping them for 3 years, and then not offering professional status. This kept the budget down but we were branded as a “teacher training ground” and we got fewer applicants. Now, we have moved away from that kind of thing as a district.
