Switching firms before applying to business school? I'm currently trying to figure out whether I should stay at my current firm (good job, okay comp) or take a job at a different firm (better comp, somewhat better job, better location). I'm in the final round of interviews. I plan on applying to business school in the fall of 2021. Do you think it's foolish to switch jobs this close to applications? Should I tell them I plan on going to b-school? Will it hurt recommendations?
Hi everyone, I have an IB case interview tomorrow morning where I have to prepare transaction comps and do an LBO analysis. My background is in real estate acquisitions, so I have experience with finding building comps/building out proformas but haven’t done it for companies before. I have 24 hours to complete the case once I receive it, does anyone have any recommendations for any resources and/or preparation materials? Thanks so much in advance!
I just started a role last month but a role I’m more interested popped up at a company I was interviewing at in March. I don’t want to seem like a job hopper because I truly am not one. This role more clearly aligns with my personal and career goals. Is it a bad look to reach out if the other one may have disappeared because of COVID? Is the risk worth the reward?
Hi I am preparing for some finance interviews and am trying to get familiar with the market approach. How do you pick multiples? Is it based on the company’s performance against peers? What if you are valuing a private company? Then how would you compare your performance against peers? Do you usually just pick the median or average?
Studying for some finance interviews. Could someone explain to me the purpose of a partial period in a DCF? Why do we want the period of time between the valuation date and the year end? Is that what it is? Thank you
I started a new job in the last two weeks and I’m curious if second thoughts are common. I think it’s too soon to tell if this is the right fit for me work wise, but it’s not exactly what I’m looking for. I was interviewing for my dream job at my dream company before C-19 made it go silent. I know I’m lucky to have a new opportunity but I’m worried I won’t put my best foot forward because I’m not excited about it. I may just be exhausted from burnout and a quick turn around. Any advice?
Hey everyone! In the midst of all the craziness, I’m having a rating agency interview that will last for 2 hours. Any suggestions on preparation?
Deciding on applying for 2 different roles within Goldman’s Early Career program that are based in different locations. My questions: 1.) does this hurt my candidacy applying for multiple roles and 2.) How confined are certain divisions to each location? For instance, is there any chance they’d be willing to work with me for a role in a location not offered? Thanks in advance for the help!
I’ve been on the bench since being laid off in May due to Covid. I continue to get interviews and final rounds, however nothing solid has closed. How screwed am I?
Multiple interviews and a case study that was sent over a month ago ... was told I would hear back last week and they’ve gone silent. I’ve followed up multiple times ... so not too sure if I’m getting ghosted or what
I am a background check away from putting in my notice. KEEP grinding if you’re miserable and/or have trouble getting out of bed in the morning. This took a lot of ghosting and interviews+offer letters being taken off the table due to COVID. Stay humble and you’ll be next. Take a midday walk and schedule some coffee meetings to expand your network and stay sane.
Hey everyone. Recently interviewed at a registered investment advisor, 10 person shop. What’s everyone’s views on hand written thank you notes vs emails post first round interview? Both people I met with gave me their business cards without me asking which I think is a good sign. Usually like doing emails vs hand written notes because you can get a response or further conversation vs possibly not hearing anything from a hand written note.
What’s the best website to see real salary information? I am interviewing for a lateral move on a Institutional Sales position and want to see how much people are getting paid so I don’t get screwed. I tried looking at the H1B salaries, but there is only 1 for 2020 at this new bank.
With positions on hold due to Covid, how often is too often to follow up with an email? I have followed up once already, but don’t want to be a pest. Just want to be clear I want the position. (For reference, job interview process started 3 months ago and followed up 2 months ago)
Any Canadians able to work in U.S. finance roles? What visa was issued? Asking because I’m at the visa-check part of my interview, thanks!
What's a good answer for "why industrials"? I'm interviewing for a lateral position at a much larger firm but am not really interested in industrials...
How hard is it to break into DCM? What are things you should know about the debt markets and fixed income before going into an interview?
What kind of questions would be generally preferable for interviewees to ask to interviewer on the final round interview?
Has anyone who was in the interview process for a job put on hold for COVID heard back yet? Had my dream opportunity and hoping it comes back this year... interested to see if anyone has had any progress on jobs reopening
As a new grad at my BB in back office, how do I network effectively with people in roles in FO? I’ve had a bunch of informational interviews w ppl and they all told me to keep in touch, but I’m a little lost on how to continue the relationship moving forward w/o it feeling like I’m just talking to them so that I can get a referral/job offer down the line.
Any tips for making an exit into corp dev or FP&A? I have decent transaction experience, but I come from a no name boutique. All the online applications have been rejecting me without even a first round interview.
Anyone who has participated at the PLD program from HBS? I’m considering applying (10 years of experience at PE), but I’m still wondering whether an EMBA would be better a choice. It’s an expensive program, especially considering most of it is online based, but I could get my employer to pay for a large part of it. I’m attracted by the network and soft skills training offered by the program. Any comments/experiences would be highly appreciated!
A drinking buddy is interviewing at my firm who I don’t want to work with everyday. What should I do?
I have a modeling test on Wednesday with a solar farm developer. On the phone interview that proceeded this, the CFO mentioned that these pro forma solar farm models are more nuanced than most. He mentioned bonus depreciation and tax credits among other things. Are there any good resources that I can use to learn about solar farm/renewable energy modeling? Also any general tips or things I should be aware of. If anyone could share a model too that would be awesome! Thanks for the help.
I have an upcoming modeling test for an interview. Problem is, I have a Mac. Do people here suggest I use my Mac? I don’t feel like spending money on a pc
If a second round interview was canceled at the beginning of corona with no explanation would you suggest following up with the team to see if there are any other opportunities or to network? Cont.
Is it normal for LMM PE shops to have you complete a case study before an intro call? It's happened for the past 4 firms I've applied to but I'd rather not do a case study if I don't feel like there's a fit.
Why do firms emphasize the DCF approach so much during interviews when precedents are the ones used most in practice?
Hiring managers: When applying internally, does reaching out to you actually help my application? I follow up each application with an email emphasizing interest. Is this a good idea or do most not prefer it?
I’m thinking about applying for an internal position in a different office. When and how would be a good time to ask about salary? It’s in a much higher COL city and I’m not going to waste my time if they’re not going to account for that.
Mentoring an undergrad friend who lost his IB summer internship. Prepping for next year's recruiting cycle. Tips on acing the interviews?
Any advice for job searching? Ready to jump ship from my current job. I have interviewed with some great companies precovid/prehiring freezes all through recruiters. Cont.
In the current environment is it socially acceptable to follow up with the team you interviewed with directly if the external recruiter hasn’t gotten back to you and the interview went well?
What color suit is best for an interview? I'm about to go in for a first round at new firm for a mid-level position.
If a company valuation goes up while interviewing and they've mentioned the stock number I'd receive, but I haven't received the contract or signed anything - what should I expect?
Has this ever happened to anyone? Company promised you one role during interview and then when you joined they are making you do really simple junior stuff. Not what they said they wanted you for.
is it weird to mention someone's LinkedIn when being interviewed? I always like to look up the ppl interviewing me beforehand but is it weird to mention things you saw on there?
Firm told me they aren’t moving on with my recruiting process after I had scheduled interviews. Any advice on what I can even do? They said they found someone even though my interviews are tomorrow. Boutique consulting shop if that matters
I’m interviewing and working on an RFP for the same company. Is there anything unethical about that?
Interview this week for industry job (automotive), leaning towards suit but without a tie. Yay or nay? Feel like i’ll appear much more personable / less stuffy without the tie.
Hi 🐠, what are some good questions to ask a recruiter? A recruiter from a similar consulting company reached out with an opportunity that is very much aligned with what I am doing now. What are some good questions to ask that can shed some light on the differences or what to ask before interviews? Thanks!
Have two different company job interviews atm. One I’m meeting CMO on Monday as a final round after meeting the whole team and second I’ve just had a first conversation with the hiring manager and they want me to meet rest of the team, etc. 2nd company I’m more interested in but earlier in interview process. Any tips on how to delay 1st company if they make me an offer?
Any advice on how much time is appropriate to accept a job offer? Have two other competitive interviews coming up that I really want to take, but don't want to risk losing the job offer in hand.
If you have an interview on a Friday, when do you send the thank you email - EOD Friday or Monday? (This is for a smallish startup if that matters)
I have a 3rd interview coming up for a 4th, 5th or 6th grade position. I’m trying to figure out what they may ask this time, that they didn’t ask in the first 2 interviews. Help?
I had first round interviews Monday of last week. One went really well, the other was fine(I could have def done better). Haven't heard back yet. Does that mean I didn't make it through to next round?

It has been several weeks since the last round of interview with a firm, however, the recruiter keeps saying that they are waiting for an update from sr Mgr / partners. What might be the reason?
I really don't get Amazon's program manager structure. I thought program manager is L6 and sr. program manager is L7. However after my interview toda, I learned it is for a Sr. Program manager L6 role. Wtf. Not sure what to ask for base, sign on, RSUs. Please help
What’s the new comp structure for PwC Senior Manager? If I’m already an SM, I should probably shoot for Director? Tech Consulting, Top MBA - how much should I be asking?
If Covid-19 killed children at the rate it kills other segments of the population, no way we reject shutdowns, distancing, masks... but I guess some American lives are worth more sacrifice than others? Is that the stance for this divisiveness? Because that’s what it implies. A foreign power is here to kill tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of Americans, and these “Americans” won’t fight back because the victims don’t check a box. Hard to call that a country at all. That’s anarchy.
Any advice on switching from litigation to a more advisory role? I like legal research but don’t like the stress of litigation anymore and feel like it’s taking too long for me to get “good” at it.
Damn auto correct : Wrote an email to my client “Can we put together a deck to highlight your impeachment” meant to say achievement fml 🤦🏻♂️
Where is that salary survey spreadsheet? Help! Beginning negotiations, just want another data point for my own peace of mind
Anyone ever mentioned to their manager they’re job hunting outside the firm? I really like Deloitte, I put in so much to get here, but after almost a year, I hate my project so much it has me....
Does anyone have any advice for the analytics case interview at McKinsey? My interview is Friday and I haven’t started studying and need some direction 🙂
Pissed off a BA on the project for setting them straight, and I don't even feel bad about it. Some people just don't get that you have to have thick skin to play this game.
Thoughts on going to a mid-size tech company in Austin from DC for $15k lower base salary? I know Austin is cheaper and I want to break into tech, but it seems a little low.

What are Valuation Associates at PwC? Expected comp? Equivalents at other firms? Is it more accounting or consulting?
Looking to transfer to Chicago this fall, either w Deloitte or w another firm if the Deloitte process is too difficult (coming from GPS). If anyone has openings or suggestions please let me know!
Why all the layoffs at Deloitte? Every other post in my LinkedIn is of a twice removed colleague having been laid off. What’s driving these cuts?
Firm extended WFH until June 1 (they keep extending). Tips for staying motivated through this period?! I’ve been dreading sitting in my home office for 8-9 hrs every day!!
Any ideas on fun games to play with team during a virtual happy hour? Trying to beat this WFH fatigue. 😅
