So far I’ve seen posts about EY, KPMG, and BDO’s upcoming comp reductions. Curious if other firms have made similar announcements? Can’t imagine anyone will be immune to this, just hoping no layoffs

My firm pays staff & seniors hourly, with 1.5x pay for overtime. Firm just cut our hours from the normal 58-60 down to 40 a week for the foreseeable future. Should I be concerned about layoffs?

I don’t belong in my job. I didn’t mind it when I joined in January and was interacting but as we’ve been work from home longer, the less motivation I have. I don’t enjoy the work but I’ve gotten unlucky with my teams too, and can’t remember the last time my manager praised me without a critique. Maybe I’m just bad at my job. At this point I just am doing the bare minimum to not get fired. What do I do? Should I look for a job that I actually would enjoy doing or stick it out?

Sebior associate just got stealth fired from a V10 (i.e., there's no business case to promote you in October out of the associate pool because of COVID). Will likely be given a formal recommendation to look elsewhere in September but it seems clear their mind is made up. Any advice? Is there any value in considering an employment lawyer re severance etc? Not sure whether to apply now for jobs ideally starting early next year or to wait and take some time off completely.

I'm struggling - I used to love my job not only because the work was interesting, but because I truly enjoyed my coworkers. But for the last year or so, the culture has become toxic due to layoffs...

Are people honest with their reviews for staff? My assistant only supports me and someone else so I feel like if I go off, it’ll be obvious it’s from me and I’ll have to face repercussions from her. It sounds ridiculous but as most of you know, apparently being incompetent as an assistant is not enough to get fired.

I'm an optimistic person, but it is so hard when everyone around me is so negative. What's the worst that happens, you get fired and you go work somewhere else.

Was a Junior AD at an experiential agency before layoffs w/ the goal of working at a “traditional” agency. Looking for advice and feedback on how to improve/add to my book with that in mind.

Agency laid off all producers, is now having BA produce. BA texts laid off employees for vendor recs. 🙄 (the eye roll is at the agency, not the BA manager who didn’t sign up for this...)

So, I gave my agency an advanced 4 week notice of my departure so they could have time to plan for my replacement and the team wouldn’t be left in a lurch, and now they’re deciding that my last day will be two weeks earlier. That doesn’t feel right. It feels like I’m being fired for quitting. An agency full of good people you thought were your friends turned out to be all about business and numbers. Lesson learned. Never give an advanced notice.

Our CEO is running a meeting with managers around expectations and upcoming initiatives. It was also brought to my attention that he will be informing them that if they wouldn’t retain someone from leaving / they aren’t A++ players, then we should fire them. I wholeheartedly disagree with this approach. I’m noticing many leaders taking the approach of only wanting pp“HiPos” but nothing is wrong with a B- employee who might just need additional development and training (which is a managers job).

How have you tried to avoid the realities of ageism? I’ve deleted dates from my schooling on LI and even dyed my graying mustache before video interviews.

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)
