I posted about being laid off recently. I've had a lot of time to reflect, and I'm considering applying for seasonal or contract roles before I dive back into public accounting full-time.

I have 3+ years of experience preparing ASC 740 provisions and business tax returns.

Do any ladies have advice about being a contractor vs. full time employee? I'm hoping to gain more flexibility and use my free time to build relationships to start my own firm in the distant future.

Its a great idea! Big4 has these short-term opportunities ongoing, EY has GIGnow and PwC has Flex Talent Network and Deloitte has one similar!

Happy to provide my story on the other side. Spent two years at Accenture under Technology mostly working on business analysis for implementations and PMO.

Left for Facebook for a role in strategic analytics in BizOps with 180k TC.

Few tips for looking at exits:

1) Referrals are a huge tool for getting your foot in the door. At Facebook it guarantees that atleast your resume is given more than a glance.

2) A well constructed story/resume can offset any weak points in your experience

Please help. I’ve moved up the ranks pretty quickly at the company I work for to become a Principal SE. My manager thinks the best next step for me is to move into management and leadership and has started pushing me to apply for an engineering manager role. They say that I will be a good fit because of my strong technical background paired with the leadership and people skills I display currently.

I’m torn because I do love being an IC but I’m interested in leadership also. What do I do?

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. I’m not sure if he’s changing the meaning or isn’t communicating what he’s envisioning or what but it’s embarrassing to be called out like that, and to have people think you’re the dumb 23 year old.
