Currently about to go into my second busy season as a senior associate at a top 20 firm and considering on jumping to Big 4. Due to my lack of PCAOB experience, was offered an experience associate position with a possibility of promotion to senior next year. Looking to hear from people who had similar experiences/offers and curious on your decision making process. Thanks!

Q’s for hiring partners and recruiters - you know that most associates quit their managing attorneys and not the firm/case. I’m in that boat. What do I say to a prospective employer about the situation of why I want to jump ship? Very brief background - I’m a senior associate who has been on one complex commercial litigation case for over a year. Over time, the relationships between attorneys on the case have deteriorated to the point that it is affecting my productivity/work. I want out.

I have interviews scheduled for next week for a senior associate position in Big 4 TAS FDD. Currently an audit S3, any advice on what to expect in the interview, things to brush up on beforehand or talking points I should cover coming from an audit background? I am ready to get out of audit, my mental health has really been struggling lately and I am very excited by the possibility of this role. Any help is greatly appreciated

Thoughts on applying to school to pursue a second bachelors in comp sci for a career switch into tech (non bizops/strategy role) as a newly promoted Senior Associate (2 YOE) in Consulting with a business degree? Overall goal is to get into Product Management and the second degree would be 2 years in length. Please convince me I’m not crazy! 👀 not very happy with building slides/models all day and don’t see myself in my manager’s shoes!

I joined consulting out of undergrad, and I hope to stay 1-2 years after I make Senior Associate. I think I then want to move to a manager role in industry, but I’m having trouble understanding how an MBA fits into this. Some questions: 1. Will I first need to get an MBA after consulting/before industry? 2. If I don’t have an MBA when I leave consulting, will industry firms hire me and also give me MBA sponsorship? or is that rare

Hello 🐟 - qq for you all. I’m currently in tax and just got promoted to senior associate. I currently make $84K and am working on a XLOS project with an advisory team. Once my project concludes I was going to make a case to switch over to advisory and let my current partner know. I’ve spoken with the advisory partner and he told me he is on board but that I should wait until the pandemic is over since they are on a hiring freeze. Does anyone know what my new salary would be if I switched over?

If all someone does is throw you into their firm's referral system, does it matter who? For example, senior associate (friend) vs. director (stranger). Also, is there a higher chance if you get referred by someone in the practice you're applying for?

Does switching to a similar role at another firm typically create a delay for getting promoted? For example, Associate to Senior Associate on my current team almost always takes 2 years on the dot (give or take a month). If after 1 year I switched to a similar role at a competing firm, could I still expect to get promoted after another 1 year, or does switching firms usually cause it to take longer?

Pretty pissed off. I was the only associate staffed with a partner for some relatively small corporate deals throughout the summer. I am a go-to associate for this client, and starting to move into a more leading role on the deal teams. I spent the weekend editing documents on paper, only to find this AM that a senior associate (who hasn’t worked on many of these deals) made edits on our system. The partner never told me that this guy would be jumping in, otherwise (cont in comments)

I’ve been eyeing a local boutique firm (good culture, no travel, fair pay, etc). Senior associate role (~3 years non-tech industry experience). The only “issue” is they focus primarily on the tech / software world, topics that historically haven’t excited me as much as other verticals. 1) Is there still potential there, for the intangibles + overall learning experience? And 2) does working at such a firm silo you into that world moving forward?

You are so not wrong. Racism is so easy or hidden, it's easy for placeholder words or certain reasons to be explained to let it be ok to have double standards. One set of standards to make it hard for one particular group and another set to make it easier for another group. Some are oblivious to what is going on and entertain that way as normal business. Pick your battles, sometimes you never know what logic or judgment they will put on you even if you speak the truth.
