I requested training for my personal and professional development, but while it wasn’t outright rejected, I was told I need to provide evidence of my informal learning first. After four years with the team and this being my first request for paid training, I’m left wondering if this is a red flag indicating it might be time to move on. My performance reviews should speak for themselves. Have you faced a similar situation? What was your reaction, and how did you handle it?

I don't know if it makes sense to read a lot into that. It sounds like it could be a brushoff, or perhaps it's just a routine requirement. I've known situations where the paperwork had questions that could seem obnoxious, but they were just perfunctory.

Thanks for your thoughts! It’s true, sometimes things are just routine. I’ll keep that in mind. Hopefully, it’s just a formality and not anything more. Appreciate your perspective!

Could be routine or could be finance clamped down or could be bad.
Old job went from rubber stamping college credit courses and then went militant about them after they found out people were getting approved & the checks were sent to the college. Courses were then dropped and the $$ was refunded to the *student*. Management wasn't following up.
Meanwhile non-credit certificate courses were rationed tighter than the opiates in pharmacy & eventually cut off entirely.

Thanks for your insight! It’s tough when learning opportunities get limited.

That sounds really frustrating! It’s tough when you feel like your commitment and past contributions aren’t being recognized, especially after four years. I’ve been in a similar situation where my requests for development were met with skepticism. I ended up gathering examples of my informal learning and used that to advocate for myself. But if you feel undervalued, it might be worth exploring other opportunities where your growth is prioritized. Trust your instincts—sometimes change can be a good thing!

I appreciate your suggestion about gathering examples; that’s a smart move. It’s good to know I’m not alone in this. I’ll keep exploring options and see what feels right!

I currently work in Private (GA) Aviation & have for some time (about 12 years) I’m currently making the switch to the Department of Aviation and am unsure if I should ditch my current job (in private) and go full force with the DOA & embrace this new opportunity educationally and gather as much experience as I can or keep both jobs even though I’d be working 80hr weeks.. I love the private world but am really ready to move up. I don’t know what I should do. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone - We are thinking of changing our wedding photographer after unsatisfactory engagement photos and unsatisfactory communication (unresponsive after multiple attempts). We paid a $450 retainer which we know will be not refundable. However, we are not sure about other liability as we read our contract and found these 2 clauses (in comments). Please advise! Definitely not happy with her and would like to switch to another one but also want to make sure we make the right move. Thanks!

Researching the job mkt & pay for nursing: It is so easy to set up a first interview esp. as a nurse. Set up a zoom meeting, in the zoom meeting ask abt job details and ask for the salary range. They will give it to you, and in my case it was the same range for both of the companies. (Hospice oncall nurse here👋). Then you fit in somewhere on that continuum based on education & experience—that where the negotiation comes in—they will make a case to place you as low as possible on the scale.
