By refusing to back down, make sure no one takes credit for your work and if they do, call them out on it. Don’t remain silent when you see women dealing with bad behavior from their teams and advocate for equality whenever possible. If you are in a management position, be hyper aware of misogyny on your projects, and don’t back down ever. It would be great to have men in the workplace advocate for the women they work with, but honestly, we have to be our own advocates. It sucks. I’ve worked in IT since 1999 and it has gotten better for women. It’s not perfect yet, but I if we continue to fight for ourselves and others, we will slowly continue to see change.
This. Expanding on advocacy: keep the ladies ladder accessible. One woman in the room is the token female and it’s hard to be heard, the second is a buddy and you may not taken seriously, the third is a unit and focus shifts (properly/finally) to ideas.
