Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

It's one of those things where I think there are people for whom those trainings would be useful. But I also don't believe that the people who need to learn from them will pay that much attention to what's said. But the trainings have become part of corporate culture, and a way to fend off lawsuits, so they'll continue even if they don't really have much effect.

It’s a liability thing. Most corporations need to provide this training legally to cover their asses when someone does violate it. They can point to concrete evidence it was seen and read.
