Loyalty means nothing. The same goes for hard work. I've literally helped this company build its way from the ground up for the last 6 years, and there wasn't even the basic decency to let me know a month in advance that they plan to let go of me. I got to know yesterday, and today I'm at home, suddenly without the job I've had for years. How do you deal with all these emotions without losing your mind? I could really use some help figuring this out.

Just really remind yourself that this setback doesn’t define your worth or the incredible work you’ve done. You’re stronger than you realize, and with time, you’ll find a path forward that honors all you’ve built. Hang in there. One thing that helped me in tough times was giving myself permission to take a step back, breathe, and focus on small, manageable steps each day. Talking to close friends or a counselor can also make a huge difference-it’s important not to face this alone.

You're absolutely right, and this is why I say it's important to never be loyal to a workplace. Don't sacrifice your mental health or your sanity for a business that will happily let you go once they've gotten everything they can out of you. As employees, we need to be extremely self-interested and always do what works best for us. I'm sorry you're going through all that, but I know better things are coming.

It hurts! You really thought this place that you gave so much time and effort to would do better by you. It’s happening all over the place. This is unfortunately how business operates now and while I know it isn’t easy, try try try to not take it personally! Start working on your next move and know better things are out there, and remember you do what's best for you and not a company again.

I’ve been there. It's crazy how quickly you go from being “essential” to invisible. Instead of spiraling Ihad to focus from what the company “owed” me to what I actually gave myself: years of growth, experience, and resilience. That’s still yours. The grief is real, but so is the freedom you now have to rebuild something that serves you.

"How do you deal with all these emotions without losing your mind?" Give yourself time to feel and process them. It's a lot like grieving in the sense that there aren't any shortcuts. You're going to be down for a while, and that's okay - you'll get through it eventually. Until that happens, be good to and patient with yourself. Find things that make you smile and carve out time for them in between submitting applications. Hang in there. It'll get better.

We all work for ourselves at the end of the day. You have to have that mentality and a skill set that is in demand so that you don’t have to worry about layoffs. Getting too comfortable at a single employer is risky. You need to work at multiple places and establish a good reputation so that you can easily boomerang back if you lose your job.

Hi all, I interned at IBM Cloud this past summer and had an overall very positive experience. I’ve received an offer from IBM consulting to come in as an Associate Offering Manager. The offer is 77k base + 10k signing bonus. From my point of view, this is a strong offer, but not quite what I was aiming for. I’m in my final year of school and will have a B.S. in Information Systems & Business Analytics. Is this a good offer? Or should I look elsewhere?

A coworker (diff depts) and I realized we live in the same neighborhood after running into each other on the street. We started talking more in the office and he ended one convo with “we should get drinks sometime”. I gave him my number via slack and said to hit me up when he wants to get together. Hadn’t heard from him in a couple weeks then connected him to my friend who works for a company he’s trying to sell to. Then he asked if I’d set him up with my friend :( think I have any chance?
