As with all these things, it’ll vary by kid. And here’s the fun part – you won’t know until you’ve bought and installed it.
We were replacing our queen with a king so just gave our toddler the queen. It comically large, but gives us room to snuggle!
This is what we did too.
The red sports car bed for my son brought a smile to my face every time he got into it and pretended to drive and wanted to every night. A couple hundred bucks….so worth it.
This is why I went the easy route that’s sustainable. I got floor Montessori beds that fit crib mattresses once they were out of the crib. Safe and inexpensive. Just upgraded my 3 (almost) 4 year old and 5 year old to twin beds that is a simple frame, headboard and mattress. I don’t want to be swapping out beds for years to come. But everyone has their own system. My friend does have a full size house bed with guard rails for her 3 year old and she loves it.
Following.
Sincerely,
Toddler Parent
A few months ago we moved my then 2.5 year old to a floor bed with a house frame. We needed the "baby" room for the new baby so strategized to make it seem like he was so big (he's not) and was moving to a new bedroom with a new big boy bed. The move was pretty seamless—no meltdowns or change in sleep patterns
It might be fun and worth it from that pov but I can’t see how it would make a difference in sleeping habits. Maybe for getting over the first couple days of the transition.
We set up the new bed in his new room before we needed him to move out of nursery for new baby and he ended up immediately wanting to go in there because we decorated it like his favorite character (Mario). So might not be necessary to have the bed be themed, but I think making it engaging for them in some way def helps with the transition.
My grandchildren had cars they slept in...there are two of them and they slept in same room which helped the sleep alone issues. They gave up the beds when they outgrew them... We put regular beds in room when they asked for them..
