2 years ago, I had a few children that showed up early to class daily. They weren’t any trouble and would just chill out at their desks. Sometimes they would even have nice conversations with me. Last year I would come in to class an hour early and set up some activity sheets at tables for early students and they seemed to like that. Anyone have any ideas for anything else I can do for early arrivers?

That is a great idea

I have one of the Doodle calendars from Staples that my students like to color on. I also keep motivational books and coloring pages for students to use.

We don’t allow kids into the building early unless they are signed up for the before school program. There is not adequate supervision before the bell rings. Kids can just come in early where you are? What if you aren’t in the room to supervise?

HS teacher (how do I update the profile?) Anyway, kids are admitted at 7:15, class begins at 8:00. Students are in the cafeteria of hallways. Some teachers let kids in their class early, some do not. I have SPED kids that need an early check-in, so my door is open.

When I was at elementary school, those who are breakfast were admitted to the cafeteria at 7:15. No one was allowed in their class early classroom hallways until 7:45.

If you have a large roll of paper like to cover a table, just add crayons/markets/etc and you can have them draw a city or whatever they’d like so it’s a mural

They can or it can be like a group project where it’s all mixed together-you can even have it as a banner to post somewhere

Are kids allowed in your building before school starts??? If so, it really isn't your responsibility yet for the day. Unless you're having a before school club, the kids shouldn't be with you.

They let them in and they can stay in the library or some teachers let them come to the room
