I'm assuming a sprinkler system is already in place. Just water water and water till the sod roots and use fertilizer as needed..with this heat I would look to watering 3 times a day making the sod wet to touch.
After that it's all about mow, fertilize and water.
7b. Definitely plan to aerate and seed in the fall. I’ll have to figure out what is a good fall overseed. Is it smart to vary grass types with the fescue or just double down there?
Some of this will depend on where you live (eg, central Texas will have a tougher time). Then it’s the soil. After that it’s all how much water and sunlight. Timed sprinkler systems are best for this, esp if already installed.
All depends on where you are and most importantly what kind of grass do you have?
Will you have a sprinkler system?
I’ve had St Augustine and Zoysia in 9a with sprinklers necessary. Then Zoysia in 7b and no sprinklers. Occasional garden hose tripod.
No sprinkler system and it’s tall fescue
More of a natural lawn approach myself, hoping the moss takes over 100%.
Yeah I sort of wish we had that but it’s already there so what can ya do. And realistically it’ll be great for my daughter so it’s a fine trade off for now. I just wish it got some shade. Takes a beating on these hot days.
Went thru this 3 years ago. Echo all of above on watering, I did 3-4x/day manual watering via various sprinklers I bought to ensure full lawn coverage for 45-60 min depending on sod dryness for 2 weeks then 2x/day for an hour for another 2 weeks and worked for me in NC with tall fescue. Also remember to not cut for at least 3 weeks and then never cut more than 1/3 the length of the blade off at any time. Lawn games: cornhole, whiffle ball, bocce and Kuub at our house. Scotts app is also great to use btw
