I've done both. I didn't mind hospitality, but I far prefer ecommerce. Hospitality is tricky because there's a lot more that goes into it. Parts of it were fun, but trying to optimize Yelp/Trip Advisor/Google My Business pages on top of all my other work got old fast.

This question is interesting because I’ve wanted to get into marketing within hospitality too. From what I’ve seen, the biggest difference is that hospitality is experience first and ecommerce is transaction first. In hospitality, brand perception, reviews, and repeat visits can matter more than immediate conversion metrics. One bad experience can undo months of marketing, which makes the work feel higher stakes but also more human. I’m curious how people who’ve made the switch experienced that shift.
Nightmare. Was a brand manager for a global hospitality firm and have many friends in air travel. Poor compensation, lots of homegrown talent that knows the industry but not their discipline (e.g., marketing), and extremely mature / resistant to change. If you are at all innovation-oriented, avoid like the plague. OTAs have churn like I’ve never seen elsewhere too — even worse than agencies.
