T3 firm reached out re: direct admit to the partnership with some runway to grow the practice. I am at a firm now where there aren’t bright line metrics to make PPMD, but think I could make it in 2-5 years. This would be a step down in brand, but might be better from a WLB and getting to start at partner. Haven’t had firm comp talks yet but range was well north of 50% increase in cash comp from current (plus LT equity, draws, etc). Anyone take $ over brand? what are some traps to watch for?

Looking for advice…I currently make $85k + 35% bonus. I’m interviewing for a job that I now know pays $70k + 15% bonus. Obviously that’s a steep cut. The only reasons I’m still interested are that it’s in crypto operations which I’d like to transition to, and it’s back on the east coast closer to family. We want our daughter growing up with them around. Any thoughts on negotiating a higher salary? Or, any experiences on taking a pay cut and what went into your decision to do so? Thanks!

Not sure what I could have done differently. 750 GMAT, >3.8 GPA from top 10 UG, multiple promotions, strong recs, well-known employer. The process feels so random... I know there are so many qualified candidates and so few spots but I wish they had seen it in me.
