Have anyone been low balled when they joined a consulting firm? If yes, how did you go about fixing the gap in salary? I think I was low balled as a senior consultant and there was a gap of about 20-25% when I was made the offer. I was naive and did not negotiate - still living with the consequences.

Feeling ripped off. Make 120k and got a $3500 signing bonus as a Senior Consultant in DC office. 6 YOE in relevant field (not consulting, but in required skill sets). Was naïve as this was my first consulting gig.

Is it a bad idea to buy a house as a relatively new consultant (2nd year post-MBA) and sole provider? I’d like to understand when others felt they were ready to become home owners while in consulting. LCOL area so mortgage will be around ~500k on ~150K comp, 100K in savings, and 70K in student loan debt (planned 5-year payoff plan). Numbers seem to work, but the biggest fear me is unemployment and potential relocation for industry exit (unless similar consulting role at a different firm).

My most recent director told me that my time is being charged as Sr Consultant, so that’s the expectation for my performance. My title is associate, so two levels below a senior consultant. My last two appraisals have been scored against senior consultant roles, which my company has used to justify why I’m not eligible for a salary increase or promotion to consultant. Is this normal?

If you made $225k total comp pre-tax and lived in HCOL area (but not quite NYC bad), how much would you spend on rent? Assume you’re debt free and will largely be WFH and live with a partner who also is WFH. So good space is important (not living the traveling consultant life). Partner can contribute but not a ton ($800-1000/month). Trying to figure this out. Thanks for any thoughts/insights on how you’d think about this.

I’d really appreciate if someone can share their thoughts on my current situation: YOE+Salary: 2Y advisory consultant-65k Situation: My current client is a tier-1 banking client, they have approached me to do the exact same work which I’m doing for them now. Issue: They are offering me contract to hire role. I haven’t worked as a contractor anywhere so not sure how i feel about job security especially under current situation. But they are offering 68/hr wages (around 140k pre-tax)

Big 4 consultant in public sector consulting here. I just did some basic excel spreadsheeting and as it turns out, the comp trajectory that we have is better than that of a dentist's -- a job that friends from the place I grew up in saw as a golden ticket to a wealthy life. I know people here talk about comp all the time, so I often have to do reality checks like these to remind myself that I'm doing OK. And I hope you all sometimes feel you're doing ok too.

What would you do: I’m a second year MBA choosing FT offers. Can (a) go back to my T2 firm and get sponsorship + manager role + 170k base, (b) accept Tech internship return offer for 160K base + 110K signing bonus equity (4Y vest), or (c) go to MBB as Consultant (have offer in hand) at 165K + 25K signing bonus. Goal is to do Corp strategy after 2-3 years if I return to consulting.

Earlier post on sharing salary with friends and family got me curious. Are consultant salaries that much higher than other white collar jobs? All of my friends and family are either in tech or medicine, so my salary is comparatively on the lower end and I’ve never really considered what I make to be that high.

Plan to go to B-school in 3 years (1 year out of UG now). Long term goal is entrepreneurship. Have offers at a MBB firm for a generalist consultant role and at FAANG for a strategy role. FAANG offer is slightly higher (though both are a 50+% bump on my current comp). Both would have me reset to entry level. Which one should I take?

So I’m a second year consultant. Like most, I was disappointed with compensation this year and am pretty bearish on my future earning potential here. I’m currently interviewing with a big tech company (not FAANG but close) for a position with substantially higher pay as a business analyst. I really wanted to stay til SC/M but the money is too good to pass up. I guess my question is: are there any major downsides to exiting to industry “too early?” Has anyone done it and regretted it?

Feeling confused: I interviewed for a position at a large well-know firm, 6 rounds of interviews (Final with Director), then they called to negotiate salary and said they would like to make me an offer, 2 weeks of silence, now I get an email saying they want me to do an additional interview with an associate consultant at the company.... are they buying time? What’s going on? I’ve already talked to the director
