Just need to vent. Our school district announced that the fall will be fully remote. Starting from June the district kept promising that schools will reopen for in person classes. The district conducted a survey, which showed that almost 90% of parents voted for in-person or hybrid (more for in-person actually). Then another survey that gave similar results. Then the teachers voted. Surprise, surprise-90% for remote. Continued in comments.
The first break we’ve had from work since WFH-life began in March is a great time to reflect on everything that’s happened recently. Looking back, how would you describe your experience as a professional during Covid-19? What’s changed for you the most? What’s surprised you?
My baby came home sick from daycare today so she has to stay home the next two days. Any recs for working at home with the baby? And do I give my manager a heads up? I work with only India pretty much so my schedule is so flexible and my husband is going to WFH too to help
I am currently working at a Cannibas spac with some offices on Long Island. Within the next several months we are going to be looking for FP&A, SEC reporting, SOX/Internal audit folks to help pull together our acquisitions. Looking for various levels, and people who will be passionate about really building a business, and act like a start up. For now I am only open to Long Island, but may consider more remote people.
I train attorneys, clerks, staff, and judges on how to complete legal research. Typically, these trainings and CLE presentations would be in-person. Due to COVID, I’m stuck doing them all virtually. What do you wish your vendor trainers would offer you during this time? What do you need the most help with in the work from home environment? Presentation topics?
Has anyone here gone on an interview (whether it be in-person or remote), and know within the first half-hour of the interview that you didn't want the job at all?
So who else got into the habit of watching Indian daily soaps due to family controlling TV remote. Confession - Shraddha Arya is ❤️
Shoutout to everyone who has tacitly agreed on the don’t ask don’t tell policy of recording client calls during WFH to make sure there are good notes and nothing is missed.
Do we ever go back into the office? Not sure if I love or hate WFH life but I can’t imagine commuting again.
WFH 🐠: how do you deal with the loneliness? I'm grateful for the flexibility but have a hard time being alone all day with just my pet, waiting for my spouse to come home.
Bay Area folks, are any of your (or your networks') legal departments offering a permanent WFH option?
I truly do not understand how you all enjoy full time WFH environment. We spent 4-5 years at college studied for exams, became sought after professionals just to spend 8-10 hours in your room every day like a prisoner. Does commuting suck for some ? Sure. But to think that I for the next 40 years I am going to be home all day every day without interaction happy hours office jokes office culture. It’s crazy. Part of being a white collar professional is the act of putting on the white collar.
I was laid off early in the pandemic, and other than a TINY bit of freelancing have completely missed out on the remote work experience. Starting a new FT position (FINALLY) and wondering what advice y’all might have after almost a year of WFH. What’s changed/what to watch out for/ balancing on/off hours, etc. Thanks to you all 🙏
Hi everyone, Need some suggestions regarding investing. I come from a very modest background from a remote part in India where my dad didn’t inherited any money from his parents. So all that he earned he spend in our education, building a home etc. Since I and my sister have been working from past 3-4 years and we can manage our own and their expenses, we as a family has been able to save ~20-25L but it’s mostly sitting in the bank or gold. Do you have any suggestion where we could invest ?
Does anyone have any recommendations of places to rent an Airbnb/house to get a change of wfh scenery? Ideally somewhere scenic, like the mountains or near the water (not the bay), that's less than a 4 hour drive. After everything going on here, I'm looking to get out of DC for a couple weeks.
Anyone have an idea of restrictions on dependant spouse working remote for her old company back in India ?
Looking for a female roommate to move in or near Santa Monica (2 bed apt) with me. I’m 24 WFH female and consider myself friendly, considerate and low key, looking for a great roommate match. Thanks for reading!
For those of you who spent a long time in big law (at least 10 years but more along the lines of 15+), when did you know it was time to do something else (maybe in the law, maybe not)? I don’t know if it’s wfh or just the work now, but I’m finding myself getting amazingly frustrated at things that barely bothered me before. I had an argument with opposing counsel last week and was seeing red for hours after that, and little things seem to bother me much much more than they would have before
The covid WFH budget should be higher in general but especially higher for 2020 new hires. 300 bucks is nothing if you have to buy a new monitor, desk, ergonomic chair, mouse, keyboard, etc etc. At least those who were in office at some point had a chance to grab monitors and equipment from office. Covid task force should consider this as an idea to improve wfh life !
Currently have 2 YOE in post production Workday, specifically in Payroll. What options do I have with moving to other firms/areas of workday? I work for a midsize subsidiary & am not sure if I want to continue in this space if wfh will continue for majority of 2021.
Continue living in with parents where you’re constantly stressed out (and paying $650/month) or move to a nice studio in NYC/SF for $1500/month? That’s a $10k YoY difference + I’ll likely be WFH through 2021 so it doesn’t seem like such an easy choice. Thoughts?
How many people are back in the office vs. WFH? What area and how many employees? Are you seeing clients, doing in person mediations, depos, etc?
Anemia, pancreatitis, fatty liver, hypothyroidism, kidney fluid retention & overall nutrient malabsorption. Diagnosed with all of this over the past month. Trying to avoid LOA, but in all seriousness have been working in misery until doctor can heal me. I’m grateful to WFH to at least be comfortable dealing with this, but I wonder if LOA is appropriate. I didn’t know my situation was this bad.
For those who have gotten degrees and certifications, how do you find the time to study with kids? Mine are not in school yet and don’t go to daycare. Hubby doesn’t work from home and we don’t have anyone to help with childcare either. I’m already working late hours and waking up early to get work done.
Kinda related since I want a healthy dog but any apartment living shiba inu, beagle, or corgi owners here? Debating between the 3 and want to ensure I can give them a proper healthy active lifestyle since I know all are fairly active. Have previously owned a beagle but lived at home so it was easy to give her enough exercise. Given we’re all WFH, it’s fairly easy I imagine to satiate the activity needed. However, I have a couple Qs based on when we eventually go back to the office...
I know I’m ready to exit consulting but am nervous to do so in the current remote environment as I worry that I will lose out on a big part of why I am making the change by not being in person (social opportunities both during and after work). Im also very much an “in person” type & build my strongest relationships through personal connections which I worry wouldn’t happen in a remote environment w/ a new team. Can anyone speak to their experience transitioning jobs recently? Advice appreciated!
Why don't the Big4s just declare flexi working or permanent remote working. What's stopping them? All have already tested the WFH model and I am sure it has been successful. Wouldn't it be better where one makes the decision to go to office or to WFH. Life becomes much more simpler. I get to choose which city I want to live, I get to manage my life and family well. Have always found my team working diligently and productively during WFH. Don't understand why is still there a hesitation.
I think my firm is going to be moving towards global flexibility regarding work from home. They won't force us to live in certain cities with offices. Where in the US is there a beach or beach town that gets all four seasons? Is such a thing possible? I love the ocean, but Fall is my favorite season.
Ladies - I need help! Currently in the mid-west. Want to move back to San Francisco Bay Area in the next couple of months. It’s hard to look for an apartment/home remotely and the websites are not very helpful. I’ve had success using realtors for my search in the past. Can you recommend a realtor who can help look for options being remote?
Body aches from sitting all day during this WFH. Looking to get a new chair with good lumbar support... any recommendations?
What are agencies doing about summer internships? We're still remote but, the next generation needs that experience.
Hoping for insight: I left a job two months ago. There was this guy I was really into but I wouldn’t say he reciprocated but am positive he knew how I felt. My last day he sent an email (since most were wfh) and was like “good luck, stay In touch, don’t be a stranger”. A few weeks later, I sent an email related to our industry. We had a little back and forth ... cont
So....my husband just called. Apparently he said something NSFW to me while he was on a conference call yesterday and thought he was muted and is now in trouble - maybe getting fired. Tell me your WFH conference call horror stories to make him feel better. 🤣🤷🏼♀️ Thanks in advance.
Work from home Thursday suddenly became a survival day as I woke my almost 2 year old daughter up for daycare and found her, her hair, and her bed covered in puke. Have a day everyone!
What do you REALLY do when wfh? Has anyone else mastered how to nap while keeping your screen alive
When corona started, I was way more lenient with drinking on weekdays, since life was boring now and it was a way to chill out and have fun even if I was just hanging in my apartment. Now it’s been months and I still feel like I use drinking to mark the transition from working to chilling almost every day. Is this a bad thing? I never expected to be WFH this long. I used to be pretty much a social drinker. Wondering if anyone else has had the same experience.
Anyone interested in $100 credit to StitchFix? I got a code to share that’s good for another 36 hours and I would hate for it to go to waste. Will post the link in the comments. Great options for both women and men, and a good way to add new piece for both office and WFH.
WFH Day 20: I have turned my laptop on while in bed – for the first time. Is this a win, or am I starting to lose myself? 🙃
Anyone interested in $100 to StitchFix? I just got a code to share that’s good for 48 hours and I would hate for it to go to waste. Will post the link in the comments. They are great for work attire (including WFH attire) if you feel like adding any pieces.
What are your favorite places/brands for buying casual dresses? I’m WFH and STRUGGLING with productivity. I’m now “getting dressed” every a.m. in hopes of tricking myself into more motivation. I feel ridiculous wearing my usual work clothes, so I’m looking for dresses/options that are more casual but are still real clothes? Please also share any tips for (1) resetting when you’ve let your life go to hell and are v overwhelmed with fixing it and (2) staying focused + motivated while WFH. TIA!
Anyone know any smaller / regional firms that are moving their FDD practices to 100% remote? I have no problem traveling for client/target meetings obviously, but hate the idea of being tied to a city and having to ask permission to move. I’ve seen a few remote job postings, and wondering if this is a trend.
How has working from home impacted your billable hours? What we’re your best and worst days for billing since WFH started?
I shouldn't be allowed to work from home for a week... I've had 3 bottles of wine and it's only Wed, burnt burgers, and now burnt my face from a pumpkin mask. Kill me.
Preparing for first summer in NYC. What’s acceptable business casual wear for men when it’s hot and humid? Are polos and slack fine, or is it still shirt and jacket?
For all KPMG folks here, do they offer any tuition reimbursement for masters program in advisory? Thanks!
Is it the salary growth that drives you or the management (power)? I feel like after a certain level it’s all about the latter
Can anyone suggest me a good risk management certification? I heard about crcmp, how much value this certification can add to your profile. Does crcmp is industry acknowledged?
I quoted my salary to the recruiter and I think I lowballed myself (I’d be moving states and I didn’t do enough research, rookie mistake I know). How should I approach this with the recruiter?
Recently our toddler has started falling sick whenever one of us is traveling. Doc said she sees that happen all the time with kids. Does it happen to folks on fishbowl here? How do you deal with it?
Do people actually find the MBA helped them excel in their career (knowledge-wise) and are better off in their skills/competence after the MBA vs. prior?
Does anyone know anything about the Alphabet Finance PMO group? Recruiter reached out for a non-tech project manager role. Have a Hangout setup later this week. Any suggestions on how to prep?
honestly, I don't give a flying fuck if we haven't talked in years and you come to me for help about a job. ill probably help you!!!! HOWEVER, at the very least, can you just spell my name right?
IP LAW Hi - I’m a lawyer based in the UK, and looking to improve my IP law knowledge. Has anyone done the PGDip in IP Law at Oxford? Or can anyone give any suggestions on some good courses / resources? My background is in transactional, but improving my IP law knowledge would really help with my role.
Just offered a Principal Director role at Accenture. Anyone have insight to what a Principal Director is?
How do day rates work? If I use a day rate as a freelancer, can I stipulate up to X hours per day? If I work a few hours on a weekend, is that a full day? If I need to take a 1/2 day, do I charge 1/2?
Interviewing for a job that is a bit of a leap from a leadership perspective. Any tips on how to communicate that you can do the job without a proven history?
