Today I learned that a white man with 2 years less experience than me and who does mediocre work at best is a Design Director at a place I’m interviewing for as a Sr Designer. We used to work at the same place. He spent less than a year as an ACD before jumping into Design Director roles. I’m so tired of clawing my way up the ladder while others get a golden ticket to a glass elevator. But I’m also frustrated at myself for not being more confident in my abilities and just reaching for shit.
I’m a graphic designer interviewing with a company. Is it normal to ask a potential candidate to redesign a 10 page brochure for their interview test? If not, any suggestions on how to proceed?
Any intel re: the culture at Badger & Winters NY? My fave former intern (now junior AD/designer) is interviewing and looking for advice...
Is $75 an hour in SF a good rate for a designer with like 1.5 years of experience? I threw that out at an interview and the recruiter balked and now I'm feeling paranoid 😔
How would you describe the difference between a production designer role and a graphic designer role? Interviewed for a design job that ended up being more production based and kind of disappointed.
I have 2 YOE at Acn & in the Consulting Development Program. I’ve been a pmo analyst/scrum master/functional designer/created power bi data visualizations & am currently on a culture transformation project. I have been a good designer for many years and have been jumping from job to job but never has it been easy to get an interview. Then finally, When I do get one, my interviews goes great through 5th round and towards the end I’ll get the dreaded email “thank you but we chose another candidate.” I can say for sure in one or two of my previous jobs I’ve had some bad bosses and I know they didn’t like me very much. How can I find out if they say negative things about me? Is there a secret file?
What are some great interview questions I can prepare for ?? if the position is a big designer role. I’m very nervous and I want to do great with any interview I do.
Updating my portfolio and would love feedback - https://maisari.com. Have a couple more case studies to add but it’s mostly done. Applying for in house product designer positions. Thanks 😁🙏
How far back and how often can you reschedule an interview at FAANG, and still have a good shot at landing the job? For context: I’m interviewing for Product and UX Designer jobs. With everything on my plate, I’m not as ready as I need to be and want more time, whatever additional length of time I can get before they completely fill headcount.
I’ve got an interview for a UI designer position on Tuesday and meeting with the senior developer first. What can I expect from this first round? It’s been so long since I’ve interviewed
Can you think of any good examples of a good slide deck for project presentations? Please link me to them. I’m going through interviews for Product Designer roles where I’ll need to present and discuss projects I’ve worked on. I would like to see what makes a good slide presentation for a design interview.
Looking for recommendations for job interview coaches or classes. I keep getting to the final or next to final round for mid to senior level Product Designer roles, but have yet to get to the job offer stage. I’ve been DIY and practicing using online resources. Maybe I need to bring people into this.

I have a first interview coming up at a local tech studio any day now to be a UX Designer. If you have any good energy to spare, drop some spirit fingers my way ✨🙌😂🤞I'm so close to getting out!
How can I stand out in an interview? Should I bring something physical for them to take away? Someone said if you’re a designer to bring a hat with your designs to give out... sounds too much lol
Hello! I am interviewing for an AAD role. Group interview with a GCD, a few ACD, & a few SAD. I have only worked as an in-house designer. Advice on what are some good questions to ask. Thank you!

Applying in-house for content marketing role. It’s obvious they want a design AND content guru, and I can only do one at a professional level (content - I’m not a designer)... (cont)
Interviewed for a transfer, first round phone calls with senior managers went well and they both indicated interest in me. I haven’t heard from HR whether I’m continuing on or was rejected. Cont...
How do you handle an exit interview gracefully at a bad company? Is it worth it to be honest or should you just lie?
Interviewing undergrads makes me glad I came in as an experienced hire. I never would have survived this process
How do you guys curve a bad project? And how do you guys approach the topic of how’s work life balance during interviews? I’m okay working some extra hour every now and the but not every single day
Currently applying to jobs and getting discouraged/tired. Any words of advice or moral support for this job-hunting 🐠?
Just got a booth interview! What are the chances of admission if you made the first cut? Any tips on the interview?
If you don’t hear back from an internal recruiter for over a week past an interview, are you ghosted?
How do you focus after interviewing for a role that you want? Had final round interviews for a different company last week and am very anxious waiting to hear back - having a hard time focusing
Does anybody have a career job? I’m tired of my job and feel stuck since I haven’t been able to get interviews for the next step of my career.
I had an interview last Thursday and a pretty lengthy case study that’s due today. Did not finish it in time, should I ask for an extension or just forget it? Not sure if I would accept the job anyway
Does anybody have any experience with using admission consultants / services when applying to Graduate school? Not for tests, but for the whole application (e.g. essay, school list). Any tips or names you would recommend?
Thoughts on FP&A? I’m currently a senior tax accountant and got asked to the last round of interviews for a senior FP&A position (narrowed down to 2 people). I feel like I’ll get it as I have friends at this company in accounting who put in recommendations for me. Only thing holding me back is I made manager this week and overall like the flexibility of PA, hate busy season though.
What’s the most bizarre way you’ve seen someone try to (or succeed in) landing an interview or a job at your firm?
Optimus SBR - thoughts on the work culture, type of work and such? Just got approach for an interview but want to make sure I don’t make a bad move :p
Hi Mck fish, have an interview coming up. Decent on case but have not prepped for fit portion of the interview at all. Anything in particular I need to be aware of or focus? TIA
Quarantine diaries: 1st week - phew. Glad they’re letting us WFH 2nd - work is dwindling why why 3rd - I’m gonna be fired 4th - I’m DEFINITELY gonna be fired 5th - Dead Inside What’s yours? I can’t
Can vlogging my day be against firm rules? I’m pretty depressed with quarantine and wfh, and found that vlogging is helping me stay accountable and not feel like the days are passing by too fast. I’ve just been keeping them on my phone, but think it could be a fun project for my creative side to edit them together with music, etc. Thinking of publishing to YouTube for storage reasons, but you have to publish publicly to be able to find what you published.
Any ladies here at Merrill Lynch or UBS? How do you like it? What is the training program like? Pay and benefits?
Is it better to get promoted quickly within your company, or have a variety of project experience that you can speak to? (Assuming I want to exit the company sooner rather than later)
Likely getting an offer next week for Product Management role at series B startup in Palo Alto. The product managers they have hired have 7-9 years of exp. I have 5 years as PM and 1 in consulting
Moving from a fellow big 4 to EY TAS service line. How much would be fair to ask for a Data Analytics Manager role in a tier 1 city?
Any fish with experience moving to an internal, non-consulting role with their firm and have an opinion on making the move now? Would be promotion (which I am unlikely to get in my area of the org due to freezes) but very aware of the old adage “if it’s not billable, it’s killable.” No layoffs yet and no pressure for me to move out of consulting, but this may be an option to level up and maybe have a better exit in 18 months. Thoughts?
Does anyone know of any companies that actually sponsor candidates for tier 2 visa? I’m with KPMG in the US and want to move to London, but worried about instant rejections due to visa sponsorship
Do you think the current situation would affect pending offers? Received a verbal offer from another B4 but concerned the contract will be delayed due to what’s going on around the world/markets.
Sitting on a few offers that are all very different from each other - industry-, location- and comp-wise. Should I negotiate with all hard and give counter offers as it I am going to accept it or drop some already? Problem is - they are all very interesting in different ways and I want to be able to choose from the best possible offers. I am tempting to negotiate with all but am afraid of burning the bridge with some if I do. Any wisdom you can share?
Both my partner and I work in consulting firms and we both are in a busy project. But somehow the most of house work and cooking chores always fall on me. It becomes too much on some days. Even though my partner helps a lot, there is this underlying expectation from me to manage both work and household at the same time. This quarantine has only worsened it. Anyone on the same boat? How do you manage it?
It seems that management doesn’t always understand that employee engagement is tied to many things such as work/life balance, benefits, workload, etc. Any ideas on how to present this type of info to management? We have already done an engagement survey and delivered results but there is lack of action planning which is also not heavily backed up by leadership. Any ideas on how to deliver this message so it makes an impact?
Considering companies are cutting raises and bonuses, have any of you found new jobs that are giving a pretty considerable % increase? Or is the job search coming up low on salary offerings too?
It’s restructuring season. KPMG, GT, and other firms have begun announcing layoffs. Everyone should take some time to polish off their resume. It’s a cold world out there and loyalty means nothing to your employer. Here’s to hoping that everyone lands on their feet and I’ll see y’all in a happier future.
