If a candidate that was interviewed is someone your product team loves but the candidate is concerned that they might not be able to be a Product Designer at a scaling company bc they are going back to school for a masters, is it best to fight to get the candidate still or cut them loose to prevent any challenges later?
I'm a budding UX Designer with no exp in the field besides one client project and some school ones. However, for 5+ years I've been a part of User Testing groups and have participated in user research interviews for different companies like Lions Gate, the Canadian Government, Pinterest, etc. I did it to make a little bit of pocket change, but it ended up teaching me about how user researchers collect data and what types of questions they ask. Would it be valuable experience to put on my resume?
A good friend of mine graduated from Parsons this past summer, has degrees in Journalism and French, and is a very talented photographer and designer. And I’m certain she’d make a fabulous junior AD or content strategist. Unfortunately she, like many in this pandemic, is having no luck finding a job despite applying for everything under the sun. It’s a tragic waste of potential and I want to help. Any advice for her or shops/hiring managers/non-traditional job hunt tips to steer her towards? 🤞🏼
I’ve been working with a startup for 2 months as a UX Designer - they are so unorganized so I’m wondering how I can show my process in a case study when they aren’t keeping track of metrics or KPIs or anything else because they are moving so fast. Any advice?
I have 2 YOE at Acn & in the Consulting Development Program. I’ve been a pmo analyst/scrum master/functional designer/created power bi data visualizations & am currently on a culture transformation project. Looking for recommendations for job interview coaches or classes. I keep getting to the final or next to final round for mid to senior level Product Designer roles, but have yet to get to the job offer stage. I’ve been DIY and practicing using online resources. Maybe I need to bring people into this.
Today I learned that a white man with 2 years less experience than me and who does mediocre work at best is a Design Director at a place I’m interviewing for as a Sr Designer. We used to work at the same place. He spent less than a year as an ACD before jumping into Design Director roles. I’m so tired of clawing my way up the ladder while others get a golden ticket to a glass elevator. But I’m also frustrated at myself for not being more confident in my abilities and just reaching for shit.
How far back and how often can you reschedule an interview at FAANG, and still have a good shot at landing the job? For context: I’m interviewing for Product and UX Designer jobs. With everything on my plate, I’m not as ready as I need to be and want more time, whatever additional length of time I can get before they completely fill headcount.
Can you think of any good examples of a good slide deck for project presentations? Please link me to them. I’m going through interviews for Product Designer roles where I’ll need to present and discuss projects I’ve worked on. I would like to see what makes a good slide presentation for a design interview.
I have been a good designer for many years and have been jumping from job to job but never has it been easy to get an interview. Then finally, When I do get one, my interviews goes great through 5th round and towards the end I’ll get the dreaded email “thank you but we chose another candidate.” I can say for sure in one or two of my previous jobs I’ve had some bad bosses and I know they didn’t like me very much. How can I find out if they say negative things about me? Is there a secret file?
Updating my portfolio and would love feedback - https://maisari.com. Have a couple more case studies to add but it’s mostly done. Applying for in house product designer positions. Thanks 😁🙏

I’m a graphic designer interviewing with a company. Is it normal to ask a potential candidate to redesign a 10 page brochure for their interview test? If not, any suggestions on how to proceed?

Any repercussions to declining a job offer after accepting? I am going through an interview, but this is a backup, and don’t want to join them if I have other options. They may hurry me into accepting
Advice needed: My dad has been unemployed for a bit trying to find work. He’s been a project/program manager for years with all kinds of clients, lot of experience and is now trying to get new certs. Is there a hot skill he should aim to get a cert in? Should we hire an interview coach instead?

Hi Fam - Anyone from Google and Facebook willing to give referral? Looking at a healthcare focused role with both companies. Physician with multiple years of healthcare consulting experience. TY
I am bored out of my ever loving mind. No heavy incentive to look for work just yet due to COVID in my area + I’m not really sure what position to even look for since I don’t want to go back into PA. You can only scroll through social media and news so many hours of the day. I’ve cleaned. I’ve FT dated. I’ve read. And read. And read. I’ve done the self makeover/reflection thing. 🤦🏼♀️
My team has made tremendous efforts during the pandemic to ensure the safety of all facilities and people in our region as we resume in-office activity. Predicated on confidentiality, my colleague went to HR with negative feedback re a specific leader’s flexibility with the *mandatory* PPE protocol. The HR Manager went directly to the leader and gave the feedback along w my colleagues name. Since that day she’s been heavily “taxed.” HR has a responsibility to protect anonymity. How to handle?
Have a friend who is a dentist with a masters in health administration. Fresh out of graduate school. He really wants to get into healthcare consulting. Will a firm even consider him (contd.)
Why would anyone under the age of 25 want to work for a holding company advertising agency? Inbred corruption. History of not hiring people of color. Or hiring them and making them ‘write White’. The history of abusing defrauding and demeaning women. Currently in the middle of a huge ageism epidemic. Human resources that reports right back to managers. Under paying staff while overcharging clients. These agencies will die from lack of clients but even quicker from lack of new talent.
I should know this, but I don't so here goes. Is there a difference between the Individual Performance Bonus and a general bonus based on company performance? Are there 2 bonuses?

Anyone else here bracing for mass exits in the new year once folks realize they have to wait till July or later for their overdue promotion and/or salary raises? Disappointed we have’t had more townhall updates from 360i leadership alongside setting expectations for 2021 promotion timings (when based on merit, if that is a thing anymore). Also concerned we’ll have a serious retention problem over the next six months.
Neglected my health in ‘20 which caused qol to be much lower, my only goal for ‘21 is to put health in the 1st place. What “Asian” tips do you have? I’ll start - goji berries in water you drink.
