What's the procedure of applying Jobs at Mckinsey, BCG, Bain and other consulting firms? Need leads for a Senior Designer or Design Consultant role. Help is appreciated ✌️ WE:4.5 years
Question: I’m a designer - going to interview in person this week and just recently got locs done. A friend of mine was telling me how this isn’t a good idea because locs are too ethnic and not corporate looking enough for an interview. But I’m a designer. I do not work for corporate America. Should your hair style really matter that much for an interview?
I f**ed up my interview for a UX designer role at a 11-50 employees boutique company out of covid depression. They’ve been looking to fill that role for 3mo as far as I know. There’s now also a UI designer opening. Are my chances thin for either roles when I do apply?
Is it expected to prepare a deck to present your work/case studies for an interview? Or going through your portfolio is more the norm? I’m interviewing for a visual designer role for a design agency (product design/brand experience focus) but I come more from startup background so curious what’s the vibe like with agencies
Hi - I’m a jr. designer interviewing for a design role within an agency/consulting setting. The interviewer is a design director who recently worked at Huge. I come from a startup/product background and wondering if anyone have any general tips/insight - is it generally expected to prepare a deck to communicate my portfolio or running through my case studies in my site is good enough?
I have a second interview with a very well-known sports organization for a Junior Designer position. I’m meeting with the Designer and two other employees in different departments. How can I stand out and secure the job?
Hi Guys, I have a few questions - I recently cleared an interview with Deloitte for the role of UX designer consultant. Currently I am working with a startup. I have interviews scheduled with thermo fisher and Boeing. Would Deloitte be worth leaving the other opportunities? How much travelling would I have to do as a consultant? I really don't have anyone to guide me. I would be thankful for any response.
I have an interview at D for the Solution Designer role. How is this different from a Consultant? are they on the same level or is SD below C? Appreciate your responses :)
I have a PM interview coming up and the interviewer is a Product Designer. I’ve never interviewed with a Designer before, so I’m looking for guidance on what kind of things could be asked and suggestions on what/how to prepare. I assume they want to understand how I partner with design team, how I make/help make decisions, but this is high level. Can anyone share more specifics?
Why do job applications for art directors have way more requirements than copywriters these days? I’m sick of being expected to not only art direct and design, but to be the illustrator, animator, editor, 3D artist, UX/UI designer, etc. all while my copywriter friends snag interviews and gigs left and right with ease bc hiring managers just expect them to do the 1 job they’re supposed to do! I need a job and I’m so so so tired of it!
Question about interview process: I’m transitioning my career to product design and have been applying for a new role. I heard back from a recruiter for a product designer position and asked me to complete a design exercise. The thing is that I’ve not even had a phone interview yet. Is this normal? Also, how long should a design exercise take? The only thing I received is a list of prompts choose from. Thanks!
#advice #mentorship #creativedirectors Hello, business owners and creative community leaders. Since moving to SW Florida end of 2019, professional life has been a f*ckin doozy (for many of us.) For 15 years I’ve been an art director / brand / designer and can say I’ve done well. After many connections and interviews and tests and hoops I’m not getting hired. Feeling defeated, frustrated — bang head here! Any mentors / leaders that can advise a renewed jump to restart? Thank you in advance.
If a candidate that was interviewed is someone your product team loves but the candidate is concerned that they might not be able to be a Product Designer at a scaling company bc they are going back to school for a masters, is it best to fight to get the candidate still or cut them loose to prevent any challenges later?
I'm a budding UX Designer with no exp in the field besides one client project and some school ones. However, for 5+ years I've been a part of User Testing groups and have participated in user research interviews for different companies like Lions Gate, the Canadian Government, Pinterest, etc. I did it to make a little bit of pocket change, but it ended up teaching me about how user researchers collect data and what types of questions they ask. Would it be valuable experience to put on my resume?
I’ve been interviewing for an Interaction Designer role at Google. I’m at the design exercise stage, but still haven’t submitted it for weeks. Recruiter told me a month ago there was a finalist they might be able to close soon & they would update me if it's finalized. Since I haven’t gotten any messages or rejection emails since then, am I still in the running? Does Google auto reject candidates if they spend too much time on the exercise?
I applied to Deloitte for the Workday Solutions Designer role. Went through the entire interview process (3 rounds). Within 3 weeks, I heard from the recruiter saying that they wanted to give me an offer. However, my current company was their client and as per their contract, they wanted me to tell my company before they could hand out the offer letter. I agreed, but asked for more information about the contract (start date, salary, etc). Since then I've been ghosted. Whats going on?
A good friend of mine graduated from Parsons this past summer, has degrees in Journalism and French, and is a very talented photographer and designer. And I’m certain she’d make a fabulous junior AD or content strategist. Unfortunately she, like many in this pandemic, is having no luck finding a job despite applying for everything under the sun. It’s a tragic waste of potential and I want to help. Any advice for her or shops/hiring managers/non-traditional job hunt tips to steer her towards? 🤞🏼
I’ve been working with a startup for 2 months as a UX Designer - they are so unorganized so I’m wondering how I can show my process in a case study when they aren’t keeping track of metrics or KPIs or anything else because they are moving so fast. Any advice?
I have 2 YOE at Acn & in the Consulting Development Program. I’ve been a pmo analyst/scrum master/functional designer/created power bi data visualizations & am currently on a culture transformation project. I’d like to go to a start up or faang and I’ve applied to countless jobs but have gotten no requests for interviews. Any idea What could be the reason????
Hello there! I have been interviewing with Amazon for L6 Sr. UX Designer role. I want to understand what’s the salary range I should be negotiating for that role. I have no clue what big company like amazon and Facebook pays for someone with 10 years of experience. Any help and pointer will help me with the negotiation. Thank you.
Hi fishes! I Have an interview at an agency in NY I’ve been crushing on for a while. Having a hard time figuring out my salary range. I make 90k in SF at agency, would it be crazy for me to enter the discussion at 85-90k? Knowing I’d be willing to be backed down to around 80k (give or take 2k). Glassdoor is a little confusing bc there’s separate suggestions for “senior designer” and “senior graphic designer”. Anyone have suggestions or willing to offer how much they make? Thanks y’all!
I’ve got an interview for a UI designer position on Tuesday and meeting with the senior developer first. What can I expect from this first round? It’s been so long since I’ve interviewed
Looking for recommendations for job interview coaches or classes. I keep getting to the final or next to final round for mid to senior level Product Designer roles, but have yet to get to the job offer stage. I’ve been DIY and practicing using online resources. Maybe I need to bring people into this.
Today I learned that a white man with 2 years less experience than me and who does mediocre work at best is a Design Director at a place I’m interviewing for as a Sr Designer. We used to work at the same place. He spent less than a year as an ACD before jumping into Design Director roles. I’m so tired of clawing my way up the ladder while others get a golden ticket to a glass elevator. But I’m also frustrated at myself for not being more confident in my abilities and just reaching for shit.
How far back and how often can you reschedule an interview at FAANG, and still have a good shot at landing the job? For context: I’m interviewing for Product and UX Designer jobs. With everything on my plate, I’m not as ready as I need to be and want more time, whatever additional length of time I can get before they completely fill headcount.
Can you think of any good examples of a good slide deck for project presentations? Please link me to them. I’m going through interviews for Product Designer roles where I’ll need to present and discuss projects I’ve worked on. I would like to see what makes a good slide presentation for a design interview.
What’s the number one question you would ask when interviewing a remote freelance designer?
I have been a good designer for many years and have been jumping from job to job but never has it been easy to get an interview. Then finally, When I do get one, my interviews goes great through 5th round and towards the end I’ll get the dreaded email “thank you but we chose another candidate.” I can say for sure in one or two of my previous jobs I’ve had some bad bosses and I know they didn’t like me very much. How can I find out if they say negative things about me? Is there a secret file?
Junior level designer here with basically no agency experience, doing interviews at an agency for a short term freelance project and they’re asking me my hourly/day rates. What should i say?? What’s a reasonable amount of $ to ask for?
Been a week since final round interview with govt agency. Haven't heard anything... good? Bad? Reach out next Monday?
I’ve never done a case interview (I own a boutique digital agency) What are they? Is it essentially what we did in business school? Do they give you a case from HBS or is it usually a proprietary one?
internal transfer interview offer but required to disclose to current manager. I would like to move but I just got hired 6 months ago. want to initiate the convo. Too risky? current manager loves me.
How long does ZS typically take to give final round interview results? I thought I did really well on the struct/unstruct cases as well as the behavioral, but now I’m totally second guessing myself since the recruiter said it would be 24hrs and I haven’t heard back a week and a half later ... (Undergrad Hire)
What’s up with companies and their insistence on salary expectations? I had a chat with a company after all the interviews had been done and they asked me what my salary expectations were to “not waste anyone’s time”. Why didn’t they ask me this before all the interviews then?!
I just had a bad interview. Feeling low confidence and have another interview (different company) this week. Any tips on how to shake it off? Do better next time?
McKinsey folks that came in as experienced hires. How would you compare the final round interviews to the 1st rounds?
Hello amazing PMs 👋 Amazon Senior PM role (L6) - What should I tell the recruiter as the expected total compensation? Also appreciate any tips / materials/ books for clearing the interviews

have been given an assignment as the next step in the interview process. need to build a campaign reco for one of the agency’s existing clients. anyone else get similar asks in the past? usually i’ve been given old briefs, which i’m comfortable with, but this is new work for a current problem... how would you approach?
Had a kick ass final interview at a bike parts manufacturer... might be less pay 💰 but managing the development of new bike parts sure beats deck development and weekly travel ...crossing my fingers
Any thoughts on SEI consulting or System Evolution consulting?? I am interviewing with them and they are an employee owned firm. Seems like their engagements are mostly very small.
Interviewed for a manager position at a consulting firm. They came back to me today saying they like me but see me as a senior consultant rather than a manager. How do I approach this situation? Do I push back?
I am a top rated analyst but my undergrad GPA was low (3.5) and other stats / deals not super impressive. Have not been getting any HF/credit/mezz interviews which is what I'm interested in. Ideas?

Having 5 interviews lined up and likely to secure 1 offer next week, but that one is not my ideal choice. But I really don't want to stay in Deloitte anymore. In case I have an offer next week, can I push the offer acceptance date and expedite the remaining interviews as much as I can? When should I quit Deloitte? As soon as the 1st offer is received?
Why tf is the interview process so rigorous when I spend all my time reformatting miniscule details on slides?
What is big 4 salary in NYC for tax senior position? I have been reached by recruiters from 3 of big4. I have two years experience with midsize firm. Hopefully it’s ok to apply senior in big 4
I feel like getting this off my chest: In February 2020, I started my new job at a consulting firm, and I was assigned to a client. On the second day of being at the client site, I had a big lunch and had the “itis.” I accidentally dosed off at my desk and the employees of the client site noticed it and apparently they told the higher ups at my consulting firm. As a result, I was rolled off and placed on the bench and eventually I was laid off from my job. To this day, I am still unemployed. 😞😞😞
Getting a hand written note and a bottle of wine thanking you for your consecutive 24 hour work days on a project is a weird combination of pride and depression
What’s that salary website that members post here on occasion for more accurate salary data from companies like FAANG Mbb big 4 and IB? Not glassdoor, not paysa, payscale, it’s not as well known
Benefit of from WFH is that you can do a primal scream when your Director keeps changing their mind after you've done the work.
To my manager: your inability to say “no” to asks does not qualify you to all of my personal time. Your lack of boundaries somehow becomes my problem to constantly push back on. I would like you to know that instead of a leader it makes me (and others) think of you as a yes man / woman. I know you’re vying for promotion, but that isn’t an excuse. No thank you.
Hi everyone! Hitting an all time rut with work motivation and burnout, with very long workdays (generally 7:30 am - 8 or 9 pm). Any tips that have helped anyone with this? Podcasts, books, songs or anything else that helps bring back the inspiration and drive? I am having a difficult time paying attention, being productive & just feeling overall detachment. Think there’s some low grade depression at play w/ the WFH situation & shorter/colder days, but I don’t have much control over my hours
Suggestions on resources (books, courses, etc) for improving the following? Effective communication Management and mentorship Working well with people with different working styles Negotiation
Anyone else feel like you can’t put your phone down for a minute? Got an email about a potential freelance gig. Took 2 hours to read, wrote back and position was filled. 🙄
Been a week since final round interview with govt agency. Haven't heard anything... good? Bad? Reach out next Monday?
Received an automated rejection email from a company... Four hours later, the recruiter reached out to schedule the third round interview. Huh? Am I living in the movie Groundhog Day?
So I'm sick hanging out at my aunts place and she's trying to explain to a friend what my job is because I have absolutely no voice. She is so flustered trying to explain consulting and data science.
Do any of you use Uber Eats or Door Dash regularly? Any tricks for not having the fees nearly double your cost? I live alone and have a car. I have a hard time justifying the spend unless I'm sick.
Been on the bench for nearly 3 weeks. 2 week notice gets submitted Friday. Kind of hoping I get laid off before then so I can bank the severance. #lifegoals
Flying with my dad for the first time in 2 years - does anyone have an American Airlines drink voucher they aren’t going to use I can give him? Would be huge
