Do a VC fellowship with the big life science VC firms (e.g.. Third Rock, Flagship, etc.) or at least some of the smaller ones. It's turned into a full-time role for a number of people I know.
Sell side equity research seems to be a good path into buy side funds, including VC
It’s rare and people I know who have done it have gone after doing brief stints in equity research. Also these funds place a heavy preference for PhDs / MDs

You can also consider some VC/PE-like roles first prior the moving to an actual VC/PE. Examples that I'm thinking of are like PureTech Health, Ginkgo Bioworks, etc.
Agree with M1 that there is typically a strong preference for life science PhDs or MDs.

Yup, I've heard good things about PureTech as well.
Ah okay, I'm not too familiar with Ginkgo as an org or the roles there but have heard about their hiring this year so figured I'd float it as a thought as well.
