Not necessarily. Many state jobs receive federal grant funds so if the grant goes away it may lead to a layoff. Generally they are less prone to recession cuts/layoffs as states will typically put hiring freezes on and reassign existing workers to fill gaps. No job is 100% guaranteed. Also depends on the state. States that are right to work states tend to be much more secure employers.
Well said!!! Like you said, all of us Government workers thought we were, but just look around. 148,000 and more to come.
Federal jobs are on cutting budget. But probably this might change.
I just got laid off of a state job in June, and it happens more than people think. It may vary depending on whether or not it's a union job and what the political climate is in the state. It's not uncommon for a new governor to take office and immediately fire everyone. Generally speaking, state governments function just like the federal government only at a smaller level.
That is a hard one to answer, I thought the same thing, after 23 years at a Township to find myself at 60 looking for employment, I thought I would retire from their. Cutting back is one thing companies are doing now.
