Focus on years of experience directly with CMAAS type of work. At PwC you go manger>senior manager>director.
There’s no official required time within each role, but typically it is expected to spend 2 to 3 years as a manager and then again as a senior manager. If you have been a senior manager for 5 years doing equivalent CMAAS work, I would go for Director. Note, it is very common for PwC to offer you the lower level role if you are on the border. But can quickly get promoted if you can show the performance at the next level.
The years at grade is certainly a major factor to consider to echoing that viewpoint as well.
Additionally, how confident are you in your ability to sell and develop client relationships that can be converted to $?
Directors are folks on the path to partner / have a theoretical case of how they’d get there. The associated expectations are also pretty high accordingly.
Consider if you’re ready for that vs. starting as a SM who doesn’t have as high expectations initially. I’ve seen plenty of folks come in a ‘level down’ and quite quickly demonstrate the skills and get promoted to where they wanted to be. I’ve also seen the opposite and those folks aren’t ready for the role. That transition is rough and generally doesn’t work out well for all parties involved.
