I currently work as an APM at a FAANG company but recently received an offer to join an MBB. I’m very excited about the role but didn’t realize I’d need to take a pay cut when I applied (~100k base + ~20k bonus + ~60k equity vs. 90k base + 10-20k bonus). Considering that I currently work 40-60 hours/week, I’ll be making significantly less per hour at the MBB. I’m very interested in the opportunity but also don’t want to make a poor financial decision early in my career. Thank you for your time!

How big is to big for an initial investment property. Theres a 20 SFH portfolio for sale by me for about a mil. Is this to big to start with initially? I'm less worried about the Financials (feel comfortable on that end) and more worried about the managerial aspect.

For any of you real estate investors, what tools or sources did you learn from when getting started. Can’t find a mentor currently so want to find some highly recommended books or videos. If focused on the tri-state area (NY, NJ, Long Island mainly) that would be even better. My hope is to buy and rent out a apartment while also owning a house and house hacking that by renting part of it out. Trying to understand all the steps, traps, and how to find if it’s a good investment.

When my job is to handle all the corporations issues does it ever get hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel? Like that this business will survive? It will get its next round of funding? I have worked with Forbes top companies, for-profits, non-profits, & startups. I consider myself a solver of complex & complicated problems requiring mixed method research & novel solutions. This has led to issues in self-referencing title. I’ve been project manager, data engineer, developer, modeler, analysts, principle DB developer, etc. Most of my w2 work has been from offers of 1099 clients so I am usually asked to define my own title. Any T-shaped data people who run into this?

Read that McK is paying 2K higher than BCG this year which means BCG will probably raise again next year to at least match. However, they can’t just copy McK with 2K to match because that would look bad so they’ll have to beat it again. Then McK and Bain will follow. Barring a devastating recession, I’m guessing this means MBB is all getting raises again next year?
