We have the ability but do not use it. I do not want to lose out on a good hire bc AI didn't like something. Many times in the actual phone interview part, I find out a lot of information good and bad. On the other hand, it is getting riskier for the companies now with AI also. A lot of fraud. Makes it hard for both side. I have had several interviews set up and the applicants have no showed. This goes on too. We do not ghost our applicants but they have not all been to forthright either. Keep trying, don't give up. There are some of us out there with good positions at good companies.
Not until the screening is complete. So to answer your question, not really. The odds are stacked against all of us.
I've done some reading on that and it seems companies can program their ATS to exclude people if they don't list specific skills needed for the job on their resume. So it's like having knockout questions in an interview. My guess is that they're doing it because they get so many unqualified applicants, but it is unsettling to think a robot could reject you before a human even gets to see your resume.
I think your odds of getting seen by a recruiter are improved if you are playing the game. ATS keywords, writing your résumé to the algorithm, etc. It's a bummer that we have to do this but that's hiring in 2026, I guess.
on Linkedin, search the company name followed by the word "recruiter" and connect directly with recruiters for the companies you're interested in. Attach a note, letting them know you want to connect because you're actively looking and for what job/position/area (throw in your years of experience if you have a lot to catch their eye... ie "10+ years") so they pay attention (if you don't have the paid version). Get them your resume as soon as you're able. Sound excited about the company and let them know you're looking to start asap etc. If they don't have any current openings but you have a resume they like, they'll keep you filed in case something opens up. Their bread and butter is placing qualified candidates so if you are one, they'll have you tagged.
