What is the best way to estimate take home pay for a partner? Apologies if this is a duplicative question, but I did search. It seems very difficult to determine when taking into account the loan repayment of the buy in and other expenses (i.e., health insurance). Manager here in Big4 consulting. I enjoy the people I work for, and have an amazing MD and the best flexibility. I should be promoted to SM shortly. I don’t really care for my job but I don’t want to switch jobs b/c my situation is the best it will get (increasing salary and amazing work life balance). My plan is to stay at my company for the next 5 years, save money, get the employer match, and pension with no aspirations of making MD. Just me, or anyone else feel the same?

I want to buy a house with a pool but my husband thinks it is not financially sound and will end up being a money pit since we live in a climate where we can't use it much outside of 3-4 month summer season. We live in the DC, MD, VA area. We have three kids under 10 years of age and I think the benefits for them outweigh the costs. Anyone own a home with a pool and regret it? Why or why not? Did it increase or decrease your home value? Did it make it harder or easier to sell?

I'm looking for a new healthcare related opportunity in the MD area (open to remote). I've seen a few roles, but noticed the lack of diversity amongst leadership at a few places. I also read some reviews that concerned me in that regard. Any suggestions? Where have you guys landed and do you like it?

Life / Career Advice: I applied to medical school since my MCAT score was set to expire, ended up getting into 1 program. I also have an opp to join a well funded/well established Healthtech Startup (6 figure salary w/ equity + benefits) as a BD professional. I enjoy the business side of things and am unsure if I would end up practicing Medicine (medicine is also a long arduous path). At the same time, having an MD holds a lot of clout/authority in HC. Any thoughts on what I should do?

I’m 20 weeks pregnant and just told my MD. Went great. I know I need to tell my team but am really worried they will judge me. It’s been a rough few weeks and I’m nervous they’ll say “well that makes sense she is pregnant”. I know it’s insecurity. But today someone said about a client “well she’s getting back from maternity leave she won’t really want to work” (woman said this btw). I know I shouldn’t care but I do. I am the lead.

I’m not sure if I want to pursue being an MD or not. I was up for promotion two years ago and took myself out of the pool in order to ensure I could be home with my family. Now, I’m being encouraged to “go for it” again this year. What are the real benefits of being an MD? Is it really the pay increase? Undoubtedly I have much of the responsibility if not the accountability, and I am ok with that.

How does retirement work at your respective firms for Partners and MD’s? Is there a pension plan for you or a buyout plan? Also if you don’t mind sharing, I would love to understand roughly how significant your retirement plans are and how that drives or has driven career decisions.

Question: Theoretically, what kind of raise (percentage) or benefits would you need to leave a role where you have *relatively* good work, a good team and great work/life balance, with the consideration that money, location and family/personal affairs aren’t issues? My MD is pushing for me to get a 15% raise in my current role, but I know I’m worth at least 35% more than my current comp.

Currently making 50 base at large consulting firm in Tier 3 city. Expecting an offer at a Boutique in NYC (Tier 1) to be close to 95/100 base.

I am excited for almost double what I am making now but am afraid of the negatives: Have to start all over in terms of connections, benefits may not be as great (phone was paid by company), lots of expectations and responsibilities that I am afraid I am not capable of handling.

Positives are obv pay, location, projects
