Unfortunately we didn’t do nothing. They went back per their own will

This is absolutely true. I cringe every time Mohandas Gandhi gets the credit. We just waited for them to leave, they went back because of the 2nd world war, had it not happened, they would have happily stayed here keeping us busy with non-cooperative movement nonsense.
by 1947, Britain was not really in power over much of India. And it was not just because of the war.
By 1930s, Indian nationalists became assertive enough and the landmark Government of India Act, 1935 devolves a lot of power to Indians. Elections were held [Indian provincial elections, 1937] and the leaders had a sizable influence over the administration [still the foreign policy and military was tightly controlled from London].
In the 1940s, things began spinning out of control. In the years leading up to the Simla Conference in 1945, Britain was willing to provide India with self-rule, somewhat on par with Canada/Australia. However, that was not acceptable to the Indians and riots marred the last days of the Raj.
British rule over Indians was always dependent on the acceptance of Indian elites. There was no way a tiny country sitting 8,000 km away could rule India. It was the Indian elites - the small rulers, zamindars, civil servants, rich merchants, land lords and administrators who made the Raj possible.
Remember, India was always controlled through these elites and chains. Whether the guy ruling in Delhi is a central Asian or an European, the ultimate person who enforced the laws and taxation was always an Indian in your village. The ones who control those guys ultimately controls India.
By the 1940s, the Congress movement took control of the elites and thus it became nearly impossible for the British to rule anymore. With or without Hitler and World War 2, this would have happened. In fact, before WW2 was formally declared Indian leaders already called the shots in most of the provinces.
If the British had not left in 1947, there would have been a reverse colonization and Britain would have been ruled from Delhi eventually. This is what happened to the Romans. They colonized the Greeks, the Greeks then brought their ideas and philosophies to Rome - eventually the centre of Roman empire shifted east to Greek city of Constantinople in 330 CE (Why did Constantine move the Roman Capital to Constantinople).
The Portuguese empire colonized Brazil and eventually forced to shift capital to Rio in 1808 — Transfer of the Portuguese Court to Brazil [Portugal then broke away]. In the same way, India also absorbed Mughals and eventually the Mughals were going around warring their home land Afghanistan to be ruled from Delhi [Mughal–Safavid War (1649–53)].
When a smaller country colonizes a larger country, the former usually gets dissolved into the latter, given enough time. Britain escaped that fate.
So M1, D1, as consultants, you really believe that the British left India on their own??
Their largest share of Colonial income was from India, they maintained other more painful to hold far flung colonies like Hong Kong, but moved solely out of India due to the inconveniences of running the place since end of WWII?
Come on, you surely use your critical thinking outside of your paid engagements too, no?
