If anyone has hired friends as a favor... I would like to be friends with you.
I need a job and I need friends. It's a win-win.

hahah!
No, I haven’t. I believe hiring should be based on skills and fit, not favors. It keeps things fair and professional, and honestly, it usually leads to better results for the team and company.

thanks for your perspective!
Oh yes, I actually do this all of the time. I would say something like 30 to 40 percent of our new hires come from personal referrals. They are ether friends or related to a current employee or someone I know or know of personally outside of work. It works out pretty well for the most part.

glad it works well! Do you typically vet them futher?
For low level roles, like customer service or some account manager positions, yeah I definitely have. I think that's just kind of how hiring works these days, and I trust when people I know are referring someone it's because they can vouch for their character. But, I would never do this for an important role. i would hand off the hiring to someone else if I had a conflict of interest for a bigger role.

agree that it can be easier for entry level roles to just take a referral
I haven't. One of the benefits to living far away from my hometown is that I don't have people coming out of the woodwork to pressure me to hire their son, daughter, cousin, best friend, etc. I like to think I'd be above doing this, but I don't know that for sure.

ah! I hate when there's pressure and not just a suggestion
