How short is too short when it comes to job length? At what point do you look like a job hopper? I'm thinking anything under two years is a bit sus.

Coming from someone who has moved roles a lot over the past 10 years I’ve never left any earlier than 2 years. My last was 1 year 11 months and 2 weeks. Close enough but it was a disaster of a role. Longest was about 5 years.

I’m planning on staying at my current role for at least 3-5 unless I find something that offers me a tremendous salary increase. I doubt that based on the current market condition.

That sounds smart. I do wonder if the folks who hop more frequently get bored or just bounce when the expectations on them are raised.

I’d say it really depends. I don’t think a short stint at a company necessarily looks bad if there’s a good reasoning behind the leave, some very loyal employees leave to realize the move they made wasn’t a good fit. I agree it would start to look suspicious if you had multiple jumps and never stayed more than 2 years.

Agree. One short job isn't an issue, but multiple one year roles raises some eyebrows.

Do any of the top consulting firms hire into the Engagement Manager level after an M7 (if they had manager experience elsewhere)? I know MBB probably doesn’t but what about other tier 2 firms after that - and asking for US or Canada

I’ve been verbally offered a position at a new company, but the recruiter insists on getting a verbal acceptance before sending the offer in writing. This person insists on negotiating salary before sending the paperwork. Generic benefits, RSUs, bonus info have been provided; it’s all unofficial.

This is absurd. Am I missing some “new way” of doing things? Your take?

I found a company I was really excited about working at. I applied for the job and went through 5 rounds of interviews. At the end they said I was OVER qualified and they want me for a different position higher up in the company. I was super excited they then had me go through 5 more rounds, 3/5 people were the same. The interviews mostly went "didn't you get the job, I highly recommend you? I'll just put you down as a 10". After those were done they told me I was UNDER qualified. Can't win!
