Hello! I’m interviewing for a CD role at a tech co and I’m down to the final stage. Last interviews are with the CMO and SVP of Product. Any tips on possible topics and questions I should prepare for?

What does a creative resource manager do? I just got hired at a big agency. I met my team, including my partner and my CD & ECD, who hired me. But later in the day someone stop by at my desk & said he is a creative resource manager & my supervisor who gives me assignments & approve my time offs. During my hiring process & orientation day everyone said my CD is my supervisor who assign me projects & approve my time offs. Did he do a Power move on me? I will be nice but didn’t like the attitude!

Hey there! I work in a mid-size full service agency with a growing marketing team. We currently don't have a CD due to our size and current client portfolio, but that's a role I'd love to step into when the time is right and my management is on board with that. Any advice on how to prepare for that kind of role without changing agencies? Or anyone open to mentoring me? I'd love to learn from a CD or ACD to see what they're doing and what I can bring without leaving my team!

How difficult and common is it for a CD to change a mid level role to a junior level one?

I had a really weird interview for Creative Director today.

It’s a small startup. HR interviewed me and asked all the hard hitting questions (how do you get design inspiration, how do you deal with design roadblocks, what sets you apart for this role?) which I thought was odd for a screening interview.

They made some affirmative noises then said the next step would be a design test (one pager) which I would present to a panel of interviewers including the CMO.
Anyone else think this is odd?

How do you interpret “Years of experience“ in salary surveys and reports?
Here’s an example. Does a Creative Director with 7+ yrs of experience have 7+ yrs in the role of a Creative Director? Or does that 7 yrs include their work as a Senior Designer?

My agency just opened a CD position. A position that I think I actually should be promoted to. So I’m thinking of applying.

Need some advice - Currently a Manager in Big4 Valuations and want to move to Corp Dev. No prior IB experience. I have an offer for Corporate Strategy Manager position at a large Multinational and a few CD interviews lined up. Have to get back to the Strategy offer. Is it possible to move from CS to CD later?

I've been approached by another agency for an open senior copywriter position. I don't want the job currently (happy where I am) but would like to connect with the CD and stay on their radar.

ACD interviewing with agencies for CD/ACD role. Then some brand recruiter emailed me about an Art Director position. Huh? 🤔 Do they even look at your resume or portfolio before reaching out?

What NYC-based consumer agencies are hiring (or willing to chat)? Every time I go on LinkedIn and search for available ACD/CD Art roles, the same health agencies show up (no hate, just not the type of work I like).

When you leave a position for another agency, do you tell your manager where you are going? I will potentially be resigning for the first time for a promo elsewhere, so unsure of procedure.

Also, if I call my manager (CD) to let him know, I don’t also need to call my boss’s boss (ECD / VP type), correct? I would think I just include him in the resignation email along with my CD and Exec producer (I’m production side).

Anyone renegotiated a contract when asked for an extension? Current gig is day rate but the work has been insane lately, 70-80hr weeks and some weekend work. Have a lot of stuff going into production would love to see through but feel like it’s definitely turned into a hands on CD role in both the workload and managing junior teams and want to ask for $100-$200 more a day and 1.5x for any more weekend work. Any tips?

If you are hiring, what would you prefer:

- An experienced ACD that makes 190k?
- Or an not so experienced CD that makes 190k?

The point I’m trying to investigate is: I think the fact I am an experienced but expensive ACD is taking some opportunities away from me.

Does anyone at the Junior or mid-level here not aspire to be a creative director?

I was in a conversation with some coworkers today about the advertising career ladder. Whether from lack of desire or ability to manage others, not everybody will rise to CD level. Does anyone here want to stay a writer or art director your whole career instead of moving into a management position? And is that even possible without aging out or getting priced out?

When reaching out to someone at an agency about working there (ignoring the application portal or if the job I want isn't actually listed) who should I contact? CD? ECD? CCO?
I've only worked at small shops with one to two CDs, so I'm not sure what the etiquette is here. I assume that a CCO would have the final hiring sign-off, but are they too high up for this stage of the process?

Take a promo to become a CD at an agency or take a Designer position at a tech company? The money will be about the same after bonus and stocks.

Company was restructured. My position got shifted from CD to Global CD, making me responsible for three global markets as oppor to the single one. Am I correct to ask for a contract update and pay increase as a result?

So I heard a big name agency was hiring and reached out to literally every CD and recruiter I could find on LinkedIn. Today, an HR coordinator/recruiter there just got back to me to set up a phone call. Is this a for sure “we like your book and are considering you” or are some recruiters just nice enough to hear you out without any expressed interest?
The optimistic part of me says “nice job, they might want you”. The pessimistic part says “she’s just being nice”.

Hi guys! Currently a L10 in Accenture (CD&O) with 2 YOE (However has further 2 YOE of relevant experience outside of ACN) and now being offered a M1 grade role within Deloitte Consulting with a 40% raise. Was told this was the top end of the range for M1 accounting for the 4 YOE. However, I'm placed well within Accenture with a good leadership and career prospects with the caveat of being on a CD&O role, hence, historically slower career progression. Should I be taking the offer? NE practice

Reached out to the talent manager and a creative director via LinkedIn, about an open role I applied for at an agency I’m super interested in. Did this about 3 days ago. Do you think I overstepped? I know that wasn’t super long ago—how long should I wait before following up? Should I follow up by email? Would that even be appropriate? This all may be unnecessary to ask, but I’m an anxious person and this has all been plaguing me the past couple days. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
