For those that passed the SHRM-CP/SCP - how did you prepare to pass? How long did you study for- did you take any prep classes etc. How did you decide CP vs SCP

Hi everyone! I’m planning on taking the SHRM-CP exam in February and am really nervous! Does anyone have any advice for study materials / does anyone have anything they used that they are selling or giving away?

I’m taking the SHRM-CP exam today and I’m pretty nervous. I’ve been studying for three months but somehow it still feels like it wasn’t enough. Any words of encouragement?

I’m an HR Manager for a small (41 employee) company in Chicago. I make $70,000 a year no bonuses. I’m SHRM-CP and PHR certified with four years experience and a masters in HR. Am I underpaid?

Hi Fishbowl Friends! I’m looking in to starting a masters program in 2023. Background on me - I’ve been in HR for a little over 4 years now and earned my SHRM-CP last spring. Looking for more ways to improve.

Would you recommend any specific schools or master programs? I’m in Tampa, FL but I know most programs are remote these days. :)

How long does everyone suggest studying for SHRM-CP? Recently registered for the Dec - Feb testing window and haven’t started studying yet. I’m a pretty good studier / test taker but just want to gauge how much time should be put in pre-exam?

Any opinions on what the salary for a Benefits Manager with 16 years of benefits experience 6 of which are in the benefits manager role should be? Currently making $80k and have both my PHR and SHRM-CP certifications.

Just curious what the salary ranges are for Benefits Managers within this group. Trying to determine where I currently align. I have 16 years of experience with 6 being in the role of a Benefits Manager. I have continously grown within my career and taken on more responsibilities and added new skills. I have both my PHR and SHRM-CP and working on my Cebs certification. Current salary is $80k.

For those with SHRM (CP or SCP) cert. and did you notice any impact to pay or landing particular jobs after completing the cert?

Know someone earlier in their HR career that’s looking to get certified. It’s been a while since I originally took the exams and have just recertified since. Which is more valuable or preferred these days…PHR or SHRM-CP?

I currently have my SHRM-CP cert but would like to know if obtaining either the CEBS or CBP cert is worth it? If you are certified, which cert do you have? I do plan on staying in the Total Rewards realm for quite some time.

Recently obtained my aPHR and I’m considering next steps in advancing my career. I am eligible to sit for the SHRM-CP presently and will not be able to sit for a PHR until 09/2023. Any pros/cons with either certification? Should I wait to sit for PHR or go for SHRM-CP now?

Best HR certification for junior level employee (Coordinator, ~3 years experience)? PHR or SHRM-CP and why?

I am a career changer on mo 4 of a 6 mo sourcer/researcher contract that I’m not sure will be renewed due to team re-organizing. I have 5 YOE basically in an HR generalist role at a company that didn’t have an official HR function, building systems from the ground up. I also have my SHRM-CP. I am looking for a perm, remote HR generalist or program manager position and getting no traction despite a well-reviewed resume. What do I do? Should I go to grad school?

Just passed my SHRM-CP. I paid for this myself and, TBH, the company I’m with seems a bit “on the rocks”. Looking for a remote position (who isn’t?). My question is this - should I tell my current employer that I took the SHRM exam and passed or let it ride? My direct manager is a major micromanager who is saving herself and her “special friend” from an impending disaster, she lies and is unethical. (I don’t want her taking credit for me getting my cert - her new role is corp trainer)

In this field, when choosing a masters degree program is it more beneficial to get a degree in Human Resources to further my knowledge in HR (my undergraduate degree is in Economics) , an MBA, or Data Science Degree due to the fact that HR is becoming more data driven as well as get a PHR / SHRM-CP certification?

Looking for advice! I was approved to work remotely but my salary will decrease 10%. I received two raises so the decrease brings me down to my previous salary. I was told that it’s due to the cost of labor in the area.

I’ve been with my company for 8+ yrs, I love my manager and the work I do (engagement, recognition, & wellness programs) but I feel like I’m limiting myself since I have the experience, an HRM degree, and SHRM-CP credentials.

I have been interviewing for HR generalist positions but I want to know if y’all think it is reasonable to be asking for somewhere in the $55-65k range when asked during interviews. I'm currently a Staffing Specialist, very early in my career (9months). My long term goal is to become a Generalist. I feel fairly confident in my role and after much advice from you all, was able to have a conversation with my boss about pushing my SHRM-CP test to next Spring.

My new question is, in your opinion, what facet of the industry should I put focus on next (i.e. pay/compensation, benefits analysis, employee and labor law, etc...)?
