For those that passed the SHRM-CP/SCP - how did you prepare to pass? How long did you study for- did you take any prep classes etc. How did you decide CP vs SCP
Hi everyone! I’m planning on taking the SHRM-CP exam in February and am really nervous! Does anyone have any advice for study materials / does anyone have anything they used that they are selling or giving away?
I’m taking the SHRM-CP exam today and I’m pretty nervous. I’ve been studying for three months but somehow it still feels like it wasn’t enough. Any words of encouragement?
Taking my SHRM-CP exam on 12/13. I got an email saying that Mac users will have to reschedule if they have the new software. I do. But I really wanted to take the exam that day because I was going to put tell my employer that I am certified so I can get a very much needed raise.
Idk what to do 😩 any advice?
I am an HR “Manager” with 8+ years experience. Bachelors in HR and a SHRM-CP cert. Currently employed at a manufacturing facility w/ 80 employees in Metro Detroit, Michigan (Macomb Twp). I am a department of one with no direct reports under me. I feel as though my role is more of a “generalist” position as my duties are more aligned with that. I am currently at $75k and promised to be increased to $82k in the next month. Bonuses are discretionary and never the same amount. Fairly compensated?
Hello! I am seeking a remote HR position. I have a broad range of experience. I have a masters in Organizational Management and HR, am SHRM-CP certified, and work currently as an HR Generalist with 3 years of experience. My background before that is four years in college athletics with a focus in national recruitment. Any leads would be much appreciated! Thank you!
Hi everyone, I work as an HR Generalist in New Orleans, LA making 50k. I have just short of 10 years experience, a Master's degree in Speech Communication, and a SHRM-CP certification. Should I be making more money?
I’m an HR Manager for a small (41 employee) company in Chicago. I make $70,000 a year no bonuses. I’m SHRM-CP and PHR certified with four years experience and a masters in HR. Am I underpaid?
Hello, I am a Human Resource Manager with SHRM-CP certification and 3 YOE. I am working for a non-profit in Minneapolis, with roughly 80 employees making 72k annually. Does this seem reasonable? I am hoping to continue earning more, so I am also curious as to whether anyone has any thoughts on the value of a masters in Human Resources?
I have been working with a company for about 6 years as a Recruiter but I don’t feel I’m gaining the best recruiting experience due to so many limitations our company has. I’ve had to teach myself Boolean searching to be more active in recruiting. I have not had the luxury of someone to truly mentor me into a Recruiter so I’m trying to find any way I can learn and be more employable. Any advice? I’ve obtained my SHRM-CP, CIR and am in the process of a the PRC. What else can I utilize or do? Thx!
I'm currently working as an HR Director for a New Jersey non-profit of about 165 employees. I have been with the company 7 years and have a total of 10 years in the HR world. I have my Master's in HRM, my SHRM-CP, and am currently making $87k yearly. I have 7 weeks PTO, flex scheduling, and the ability to work remotely at my own discretion.
My father in law thinks I'm worth at least $40k-$50k more than I'm being paid currently. I don't know if he's right. What do you think?
Hi Fishbowl Friends! I’m looking in to starting a masters program in 2023. Background on me - I’ve been in HR for a little over 4 years now and earned my SHRM-CP last spring. Looking for more ways to improve.
Would you recommend any specific schools or master programs? I’m in Tampa, FL but I know most programs are remote these days. :)
How long does everyone suggest studying for SHRM-CP? Recently registered for the Dec - Feb testing window and haven’t started studying yet. I’m a pretty good studier / test taker but just want to gauge how much time should be put in pre-exam?
Any opinions on what the salary for a Benefits Manager with 16 years of benefits experience 6 of which are in the benefits manager role should be? Currently making $80k and have both my PHR and SHRM-CP certifications.
Just curious what the salary ranges are for Benefits Managers within this group. Trying to determine where I currently align. I have 16 years of experience with 6 being in the role of a Benefits Manager. I have continously grown within my career and taken on more responsibilities and added new skills. I have both my PHR and SHRM-CP and working on my Cebs certification. Current salary is $80k.
Hi Fishbowl Community!
Any advise for best study guide/Videos/Material to pass the SHRM-CP Exam?
For those with SHRM (CP or SCP) cert. and did you notice any impact to pay or landing particular jobs after completing the cert?
Know someone earlier in their HR career that’s looking to get certified. It’s been a while since I originally took the exams and have just recertified since. Which is more valuable or preferred these days…PHR or SHRM-CP?
Hi! Looking for a fully remote role in fintech or a larger/global established organization after working in government for 12 years. Over 10 years as an HRBP/Sr and 2 years in a leadership role. Have my PHR/SHRM-CP and CCP. Love comp but my experience is limited to a smaller organization (500). Have applied to many roles but struggling to even get interviews.
Hi! I’m interviewing for an HRBP role at an entertainment/events company based in Los Angeles. I disclosed my range as 105k+ and the recruiter was transparent that the top range of their base salary is 90k, where I’m at now. In a perfect world I’d like to jump 5-10k with total comp totaling 100k+. This is a very similar role to what I’m doing now and honestly I would consider a lower base to get my foot in the door at this new company. Thoughts & feedback? YOE in HR = 4.5 & I have my SHRM-CP.
Anyone in the Talent Acquisition space has their PHR or SHRM-CP or is thinking about getting it?
I am seeking a role in HR (nearly 11 years of experience) and considering taking the SHRM-CP. I am curious if the SHRM Learning System is really necessary or helpful. Since I am between jobs, I don’t want to spend more money than is really necessary. Did you pass without the fancy study materials? Any words of advice?
I’m currently in between jobs right now & I’m thinking about obtaining my SHRM-CP certification. Just wondering if that would help me be more marketable in my job search and stand out from the crowd. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I currently have my SHRM-CP cert but would like to know if obtaining either the CEBS or CBP cert is worth it? If you are certified, which cert do you have? I do plan on staying in the Total Rewards realm for quite some time.

Recently obtained my aPHR and I’m considering next steps in advancing my career. I am eligible to sit for the SHRM-CP presently and will not be able to sit for a PHR until 09/2023. Any pros/cons with either certification? Should I wait to sit for PHR or go for SHRM-CP now?

I have about 7 years of experience, SHRM-CP certification and Bachelors degree. I live in Georgia. I am thinking approximately $80-85k? Am I far off?
For those who have the SHRM-CP exam, how difficult is the exam? I have an HR degree and an indirect HR role (hired my staff, onboarding, terms, POC for HR in my office), but not directly working in an HR department. Wondering if I should be looking into a prep course before taking signing up. Thanks!

I’m in a rather peculiar situation. I have been in the HR field going on 4 years, I have over 11 years of management experience, I got my PHR last year and I recently graduated with my MBA with a concentration in HR this month. I am ready for a more challenging role. However, there doesn’t seem to be much available at my current company. However, I am going on 5 months pregnant with the expectation of being out in October. I feel like once I mentioned my pregnancy I was in a holding pattern.
