Can some one tell me why people wants ISL only? Are there benefits?
ISL and GBS just share a common name: IBM. In reality there are two completely different organisations altogether.
Some fundamental differences that I can mention are:
1. Base salary/hikes: ISL has higher base salary than GBS for rhe same bands. Hikes are also more consistent.
2. Work culture: Mostly no shift concept, no timesheets, mostly no managers micromanaging you. You get a chance to work under/with people in IBM Research Centres in Silicon Valley or MIT for some projects. They are all exceptionally talented people and you can learn a lot from them.
3. Work on IBM products: You get to work on IBM products like IBM Cloud, Watsonx, zMainframes, DB2, Red Hat Linux. Develop, upgrade or support them. Build automation frameworks from scratch, etc etc.
4. Patents: If you're interested in research, just get a mentor and work with them to file a patent. It can fetch you a lot of recognition in the industry, and also some decent amount of money from IBM.
Resign from gbs and reenter in ISL after giving interviews. Otherwise there is no chance. Manager will just mislead you giving such false promises but internal switch never happens.
I am telling this based on my experience. My ISL manager used to tell everyone from gbs team that he will make them permanent in ISL. But after 3-4 years after working on ISL project no one is taken into ISL after promising them again and again over time. Also, it will be good if you can throw some light on percentage of conversion from gbs to ISL that you have seen? Because if it is too low then I don't think it's useful to keep any such hopes.
