Be careful with AM1’s advice. Instead, be long-term greedy. Minimal effort leads to a low plateau in responsibilities and ultimately compensation. Job hopping can be a good thing, but don’t sacrifice meaningful career advancement for a small immediate comp adjustment.
The best way to combat this is to put in minimal effort. Good raises usually come from job hopping, and that doesn't require busting your butt at your current job. If you happy with your current salary and benefits then you can chill and if you're unhappy then you can also chill until you find your next job.
That’s what I did essentially. Hopped every 2-3 years for the start of my career to load up on salary and now I’m coasting. Still have a while to go so I don’t think I can be a career SM since I’m still relatively young. But there are plenty of 50 year old SM that have coasted at that level for 15+ years and are totally content.
