Recently accepted a job offer for an Account Director role at a big agency w a big client. Any tips for a newbie Account Director? Things to watch out for, avoid etc

Thoughts on $200k for a VP/Group Account Director role at a network digital agency on the West Coast? Apparently potential for growth is there etc. but rest of benefits package is pretty standard stuff. (I have 15yrs experience under my belt.)

Just going to rant a bit… What’s really an account director’s role? ADs in my company create confusion in trying to insert themselves into the conversation, they don’t understand management consulting and confuse clients, they fake having relationships with key decision makers, often misread the company politics/camps and then try to justify their failures by trying to gaslight us into thinking we were either too expensive for the Client or didn’t do a great job on prior engagements or some BS!

Looking to make the jump from Account Exec to Senior Account Exec. Moving from Chicago to Milwaukee. Interviewing for an agency role. Long-term goal is in-house in 2-3 years. Currently making $55k. What’s a realistic increase? Should I ask between $62-68k? I’ve been told by an Account Director that some agencies are doing sign-on bonuses, too and should even ask higher. Your thoughts? BG info: 5 years experience in advertising and PR mix with background in digital marketing. Masters degree, too.

Is it bad to mention that you are looking to move into a role to get promoted earlier than a year when you join a new company in an interview? I am few months away from being a GAS or associate account director based on yoe.

I'm in an interesting position. I got an offer for an Associate manger (level 8) role at a tier 2 firm. I asked if bumping it up to level 7 (Manager) role is an option, and was basically told that it is if I really want to, but I should be careful what I wish for. SM basically told me that he thinks I will be a lot better set up for success in the long run if I were to start at level 8.

What are your thoughts? I would be coming from a large ad agency where I'm an Account Director.

I have been in the industry for ~ 20 years, career slowed down when I went part time to raise a family and care for aging parents and when I moved to Milwaukee, I took a demotion. I was part of Covid layoffs and have been applying for an Account Director role. When I looked on LinkedIn, the company has a lot of young people at VP level. How do I negotiate for that after the fact? What does VP mean at your company?

Is Account Director at marketing agency a solid role?

I’m considering a position as an account director at a large agency coming from a media director role at another. (I’ve been client facing for years) are there any hard and fast rules of client management that typically media people wouldn’t deal with DTD? Note: this is more of strategist role and they were looking for heavy media experience but this position is unique in that it will also serve as the liaison between the analytics, creative, and media agencies.

I’ve busted my ass to become an Account Director and 2 years in the role, I learned that I hate it. I just want to be an Account Supervisor because I love being a part of all the action, but the salary caps so low. Why is it the only way you can make more money is to move “up”? Why can’t you be an individual contributor in this discipline at any age without being judged?

Any advice for an Account person (I was most recently a Senior Account Director at VaynerMedia) to make the shift into Strategy? I’ve been in an Account / Client Service role for so long and am finding it hard to transition into strategy at my level / find someone that will give me the chance.
