Given the market conditions, the firm isn’t really hiring right now. If you’re on bench and will miss utilization by a lot come year end, I would consider external opportunities to avoid layoffs.

I hear you, but even if the worse happens, it won’t be till next spring after year end. You got plenty of time to look for other jobs and also save some $.
By then, maybe an internal role will open up.
Are you looking to “transfer” permanently? I shifted to internal after mat leave but only on a temporary (rotation) basis for a year with a strategic growth offering. I think it might be easier right now to do it that way or via a secondment than a full on internal transfer. It’s less formal, but you’d still need business approval. I was approved for 6 months at first and then was extended per my project leadership and team request.
I am open to both. How did you find the temp role? Did you communicate to your coach/business leader before applying?
