I think honesty is key - if you have a legit narriative that makes sense for your career progression. I think it's makes things more relatable. I have a couple instances of shorter stents (1-2ish years) but I am pretty transparent about the reason for changing jobs. For example, I no longer had a manager in one role after a few months and then an old manager poached me from that role pretty aggressively several times with an inticing opportunity. Although that role did not pan out either, it definitely turned out to be a "too good to be true" situation so I pivoted back to my previous company once they got their act together and built out a new team in a role I was actually super excited and promised original in the two prior roles.

I've also road the wave of super high highs and weathered the lows of several companies and got out when I was no longer aligned and wanted to grow early in my career. And looking back it was almost always a wise decision. Now I do desire longevity but the job market is very unstable so I think it's hard for someone who isn't complacent to stick around through chaotic, unstable and toxic environments if they don't have to.

Showing that you are capable of making a decision, it turning out not to be the best one, and learning from that is an excellent showcase of yourself. I completely agree that the narrative and keeping it forward and positive is the best thing you can do.
