In stock market, there is an index for each sector which can be used as a benchmark to check the actual risk adjusted returns for the asset class.
We have indexes for Banks, Metal, Pharma, IT, Automobile, and many other similar ones. As far as I know, there is no such benchmark for bond market in India.
How do you think one should check the actual risk adjusted returns generated from bonds? How do you select bonds to invest in?

In India, the bond market is yet to grow like the US. Also, as far as I know direct retail participation is very less. They either invest through debt mutual funds or hybrid funds. Also, the bond market doesn't give you returns like the equity market, maybe that's the reason retail Indians don't like the bond market. Just a thought

Do SIP for long term in small cap funds.

Anyone else feel like the markets always conspire against them? I.e. I have a “fun money” day trading account and bought two stocks about a year ago. Sold them because they weren’t doing anything and I found a more attractive investment and then they’re up literally 60% over the next three days after a year of 0 movement.

From a financial standpoint in this market, which would be a better approach in Austin -

1. Buy a ~8-850k house that meets most of our ideal criteria (size, schools, interiors etc) to stay long term

2. Buy a ~5-550k house that’s not ideal with the plan of moving into an ideal home in 4-5 years when kid is ready for school.

How easy is it to get a mortgage for the second home?

Household income - 300k
