What job or career isn't "almost there"? Doctor - you finish residency, then build a practice and specialty. Lawyer - make your way to partner, then build up a firm and book of business. Work in the trades - you apprentice, graduate to a full role, and then likely start your own business where you have to build a sustainable book. It's really no different in accounting. I'm actually "almost there" to retirement. Life is one long almost there.
lol I guess it’s perspective and you have a valid point. However, I think you might need a hobby or something else to look forward to outside of work as yes it is very repetitive but that’s work for ya
For a sec thought this was gonna read- built around human-defined rules
Agreed !
I think also with the partner goal or VP of Tax goal moving so far out of reach with added layers and fewer opportunities to get there it does feel like it becomes more and more like an “almost there” mindset…. It’s feels that way more and more for us younger generations I think since it’s not what it perhaps used to be
Couldn’t agree more but that seems to be all things, housing, retirement, fresh air… need to determine what you want out of it and go get it.
That's a really good take, OP. I'm almost at director/partner and even I'm dreading the next step.
A lot of life is like that. We've probably gotten so used to instant gratification that we can overlook the importance of putting in time on something. And reaching a goal and finding it the new normal is just fine. Real life isn't about dancing in the end zone.
