People who smile through it? Eh, I think they might be trying to make the best of a bad situation. People who defend leadership 👎🏻👎🏻
It's funny, I pretty much recognize some of my coworkers by your descriptions. I'm okay when people make jokes about things going wrong, it's better to laugh than cry. And I don't mind if someone tries to be positive in the face of adversity. But defending poor management by putting on a fake happy attitude is just the worst. I can't respect anyone doing that.

I think sometimes it starts as surviving and slowly turns into enabling. When “stay positive” replaces honest conversation, it can protect the system more than the people in it.
