Is it normal to be threatened to be fired after making mistakes that you had no idea were mistakes in the first place?
I’m a junior litigation associate at a small firm, and the managing partner says things like “you aren’t providing value to the firm” or “you’re being paid to avoid mistakes like these” when I make mistakes due to, what I believe, to be a lack of guidance and instruction. As in, they could be easily avoided with a “please keep in mind X” or something like that. Thoughts?

Horrible anxiety about considering a new job....
I was one of the big firm stealth layoffs in covid and joined a boutique firm in Sept. They came sort of close to matching my salary but I moved to SoCal and have an opportunity to jump back in to big law and get $100k raise. The people at the small firm are so nice, but hours are nuts and if I’m going to work this much, I might as well get paid more, right? Is it too soon? How do you tell them when the managing partner took you under his wing?

I was let go from my position yesterday. The managing partner, who did the letting go, said it as because of poor development and bad work product. Yet, only in December, I got a solid raise and excellent bonus for my size firm. Between then, the partner had made unsupported claims of bad work (e.g., claimed I used the wrong code in a letter bc it wasn’t the one he told me to use but the one the documents supported). Never dreamed of being “fired.” All partners are holding the party line and ...

Sooo we just had a town hall with the managing partner/CEO and I don't know if it was intentional, but the background was his MASSIVE, palatial country/vacation house. Am I wrong for feeling that this he was a bit out of touch? Especially since many of us associates are still scrambling for work and we're under constant fear of being laid off.

Had a glowing fantastic performance review last year. This year no review, just a meeting with managing partner and HR to tell me I am fired and to leave now. No bad performance. Is it just the money?

Anyone have a sense of why Deloitte got hit so hard by layoffs? I’ve heard four potential reasons:
1. Client mix / type of work
2. Leverage
3. Over hired in anticipation of growth
4. Partners didn’t want to take a haircut

Just curious! From an external perspective, seems like they cut way more than the other firms.

Anyone here familiar with the hiring process of KPMG consulting in Van? Had a partner interview on Nov 21, thought the feedback was positive but haven't heard back yet (no rejection/offer). Is it something normal or the interview just didn't go as well as I thought?

It's an experienced hire for an SC role. I saw the posting is still open atm, and my guess is that the recruiting team is comparing candidates since competition is higher due to recent layoffs.

Thanks in advance!

Projects are sized with an aggressive timeline. However clients will take their time to respond, meet since they know they won’t get fired easily for not prioritizing the project (as they have the actual day job to focus on). How does Partner just blindly accept this fact and still want an aggressive timeline? On paper they’d say it’s client issue but still want it done ‘on time’, on budget.

I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

I’m currently way behind on my targets and my company is undergoing a restructuring. I’m of two minds about it. On one hand, a known pregnancy might “protect” me from being let go but on the other hand, telling them sooner could give them more time to figure out how to let me go ahead of mat leave.
