I think my boss is a hybrid: part Caretaker, part Controller. Supportive and a stickler for process. Basically warm spreadsheets. What do we call that—Spreadsheet Mom?
I think my boss believes themselves to be a commander, but isn't. Maybe failed commander could be its own sub-category. On most days it's something if he's in command of himself, forget about the department.
Controller, not in a micromanage sort of way though which is kind of what I would think if I didn’t work with one. There are some downsides, overall though I have come to appreciate that style and it would be really hard to work under a different kind at this point.
