I understand your issue & your question. Unfortunately, my experience has generally been that high profile agencies, especially those competing for the most desired clients/projects, are not great at the work/life balance. I’m not justifying this, nor am I I’m not blaming them. Many creative enterprises (music, film, publishing, etc.), especially at the top tier, are not super “time efficient”, even though they work hard to be that way. This is because so much of what we do nowadays are ultimately ”one offs”, the learning curve is somewhat steep. These agencies have a lot of stuff they are doing, they are often refining work/pitches/edits until the last minute, etc. They aren’t “wasting time”, they are simply trying to get stuff dialed in. Additionally, they try to minimize layoffs in what has become a project based/very deadline driven industry by often taking on a bit more than they comfortably handle, etc. Your mileage may vary, and I wish it was different, but this has been my experience. On the other hand, many people who target these places are going there specifically to put themselves in a position to work on certain clients, projects, and with a certain type of talent where they will be pushed pretty hard to grow their skill set. So, they are willing to make the trade off for a period in their career. This is probably not the answer you wanted, but I hope it is helpful.
