There were days last year where I felt like all I did is classroom management. I was constantly redirecting, stay on task, get to work, It’s like every task in my room was a total challenge. They would do anything they could to not do what had been laid out for them . I felt like it was never ending, I grew tired of hearing myself talk. No amount of rewards really affected them. I was tired of trying to deal with it. Should I just let it go Or should I be worried that this year may be similar?

I’m not that old where I’ve seen generations of children but this group 👀 is a lot even with some experience under my belt. Is Covid really the culprit or is it something else? I’m honestly asking

Consider checking out “Love and Logic” strategies. Limit group work for awhile. Focus on students working independently and quietly. Contact parents early asking for their assistance. One strategy I used was to place a “Thanks for staying on task” ticket on the desks of students who were doing what needed to be done. These students could leave on time for lunch etc. Those without tickets would stay behind for a conversation. You would be shocked to see how competitive kids can be! No one wanted to be “left out” and usually fell into line very quickly. Also, early academic success usually created a buy in for students. Humor helps too. Consider a funny meme to get work started or a class catch phrase along with a quick brain break.

Ty. This is great advice!
