Unfair Interview Experience at Allstate

I recently interviewed for a Big Data Engineer role at Allstate and answered all Spark and SQL questions confidently. However, I was rejected with feedback that I was “not good at Spark” and “did not know Scala”—even though Scala wasn’t mentioned in the job description.

Candidates invest time preparing and deserve fair evaluations. Has anyone else faced a similar experience?

We had a team touchbase where we as a group were asked our concerns regarding year end. I raised my concerns about staffing/expectations (the team is 75% new) since last year was demanding with us being up to 1 AM the day before deadline.

My director was on the call but not my VP. My VP reached out today and said he doesn’t appreciate hearing such comments on the grapevine but I was confused b/c all i did was answer the question I was asked.

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

For anyone that resigned without an offer lined up and took time off, what did you tell your team as a reason for leaving? I’m just not happy with my company but don’t want to jump into something new yet.
