My students have brought it up a couple times. I'm glad he's finally getting what he deserves. He's been showing disturbing behaviors for the past plenty of years. People needto stop idolizing him. He needs psychological help. STAT!
What do your students have to say about it? Mine have as well and its very interesting to hear their thoughts. Some of them really think that Kanye is being treated unfairly. I understand he has a mental illness but that is no excuse.
I see it as a great way to teach two critical life lessons: that free speech is protected under the Constitution (whether you like what that speech is or not), and that you are not shielded from the consequences of expressing that constitutional right. Ye can spout whatever he wants, but the blame for any blow back he receives as a result lies squarely on his shoulders.
I agree with you. I think there are very important lesons to be learned here.
As someone mentioned before. My kids are talking about it but more that they think Kanye should be able to speak his mind and they are upset that companies are dropping him.
WOW! Really?! I don't think any of my students have held that opinion, or if they have, they haven't mentioned it. They all feel pretty strongly that brands should be dropping him based on the crap that is coming out of his mouth.
As a Jew I support everybody who is now dropping them from sponsorship. It doesn’t matter if he is bipolar there are some things you should never say and things that he has said about Judaism and people who are Jewish are simply not OK, especially with everything being Jewish has been over the time. there is no ambiguity here you should not be joking about the holocaust you should not be saying that Jews should be killed you should not be saying death comes three against all the Jews. It’s just fall and stop not OK there is no room for anybody to say things. I totally believe in free speech and he should believe whatever he wants to believe but when that free speech is in speech that’s when the line is drawn. Especially against people who have had such hardships and genocide. Which makes it all the more confusing that he is saying it because he has a black person should know what it means to be enslaved maybe not personally but his ancestors. I just don’t get him at all and I never will and I never liked him and even more so I don’t like him now either what he said is just full harmful and wrong. There is no saying but he’s mentally ill. My mom is a retired Psychiatrist, I know all about mental illness and bipolar my uncle is bipolar, it doesn’t matter that is not an excuse you should never threaten to harm such a Normas amount of group of people especially given their history.
I agree with you. I am not Jewish but how can anyone support those comments? Bipolar or not you can't go spewing hate speech. I think he really needs to get some help. He seems like he is really going off the deep end these days. And it seems to be getting worse and worse.
My students are but they are disgusted at big companies dropping him for speaking his mind.
My students are the opposite. They have all kind of said that he should be dropped from brands because of his hateful comments. I don't know that anyone has really expressed anything of the contrary

My students are turning elsewhere. A lot of them used to like him, but they’re tired of his comments and behavior. And they see him as increasingly unhinged. So they’re looking for music elsewhere.
I don't have many questioning it but there are still a few students who keep up with current events and will ask me my opinion no matter the subject.
He's a scumbag. that being said I have been blown away by my students' dialogue surrounding him. i didn't have a single student defend him - that may because they're so young they don't give af about him LOL
I ALWAYS thought he was a scumbag. I thought when he stole the mic from Taylor Swift years ago that he was a scumbag. And its really just gone downhill since them. I wish we coudl be done talking about him though.
My students have brought it up. They don't really understand the depth of this comments as most of them are 11, but it's a perfect time to teach them that they are consequences to your actions.
Yea I don't think at that age I would have really known what to think. Although kids are smart enough to know what is right and what is wrong. m
Chief
Thank you for your perspective and your voice.
I have been saying that Kanye was off the deep end for years. I thought the whole Taylor Swift thing back in the day was the beginning of him going off the deep end. The man is out of control. I really think he has a mental illness.

We have talked about his school and the requirement that people attending sign NDAs, so they have reached the conclusion they can't see themselves attending a school like that or sending their kids.
A lot of my kids are sneaker heads and I don't know that they particularly find his fashion aesthetic impressive to begin with.
I don't see many of them taking his rhetoric very seriously.
I guarantee you have no idea what you're talking about.
My students are tired of his antics and believe that even he doesn’t believe the crap coming out of his mouth. Classic attention seeking behavior and then I had to cut them off because they started to give examples of this amongst their peers!
My students are as well. They all can't figure out (myself included) why we all keep talking about it. Like why is Kanye West news? Sometimes I wonder if he wouldn't get his crap together if we stopped making it national news when he does something stupid.
this relates to education/teachers/school/students how? sorry to be like that, but, I will be that person.
I think its a valid question. First of all I believe this platform is for talking about all kinds of subjects. I always thought the teacher bowl was for TEACHERS to talk about anything and everything. But I always think current events relate to teaching in general as its something some of our students are talking about.
ha, Kanye West wasn't exactly popular with the kids anymore, he had aged out of the demo years ago, so not sure the kids really cared
I didn't really think he was that popular anymore either. I felt like everyone is making a big deal out of it and I keep thinking, "who really cares." Its like all we are talking about right now.
