Dressing for NYC is impossible. Just hold on to a hoodie or tie around your waist for backup. I’m ready to strip down or bundle up at any moment.... I swear, I’ve left my apartment looking like I’m prepared for three different climates, and I still end up regretting at least one choice.
What you need is a lightly lined / unlined windproof jacket. It blocks the chill from the wind and allows you to feel the temperature as it is.
I was hoping I'd get a useful answer when posting this! Thanksss.
Linen shirts and sweaters. Layer them up or down.
One word…layers
These are my thing (male, gay): I usually take a scarf (I can hear the jokes, but I wear them on airplanes and get genuine compliments) and a puffer jacket that folds up impossibly small. Prada used to make them, Moncler does as well. Then a hoodie. My partner introduced me to Ron Dorff, a Swedish brand, and they have a lot of stylish sportswear. It’s not like wearing, say, North Face, which is functional but hideous), but not Prada either.
No. I looked—but I think I’ll look again. I ripped the sleeve of mine years ago and thought I was done and they didn’t make them. BUT I went with a friend to a Barney’s outlet of all places on a lark and they had some. I got the last black one and wish I would’ve bought one in blue. Funny thing was they really weren’t all that much cheaper than buying them at the Prada store. But Barney’s is gone now too… And I got caught on a gate and ruined that one too. Hence the reason my current one is Moncler.
A good old Nike sweatsuit with some forces or some J’s down here in Texas
Totally get you—NYC weather can be such a mind game. I usually go for layers I can peel off easily—like a light hoodie under a leather jacket or a flannel over a tee. That way I’m not stuck fully sweating or freezing. Also, breathable fabrics help a ton. Don’t worry, you’re not alone—I’ve had those “change outfits twice” nights too. The struggle’s real 😅
