Hey there fellow ESQs,
Having a lot of trouble deciding whether to take new job. Offer- 78k, between 3-4 weeks PTO, 7% 401k up to 12% bonus, senior accountant hybrid 40 min commute. I have 4 years exp. But no cpa. Currently make 70 w unlimited PTO 3% 401k, remote and am fairly miserable but I do like the people I work with.. but also not the happiest at home as I don’t get out much.
Hello! I am graduating in the fall of next year with my B.S. in Accounting. I was offered a staff accountant position to start immediately at a small firm in Central Florida. The salary is $52k per year with decent additional benefits. Is this a good entry level salary?
Anyone have a solo 401k for your LLC? Any insights/watch outs? Do I ask my accountant about setting one up, or do I need to find some kind of investment pro — or can I do it myself thru fidelity or something?
I’ve been looking for a senior accountant (industry role) for a few months now, with not much luck. Most of the applications we receive are for candidates with much more experience than what is required. I was expecting to see a lot of Big4 or mid-tier seniors or associates that are looking to move to industry, especially since the news lately is that PA firms are experiencing attrition at those levels. We’re offering competitive pay and great benefits. What gives?
Is $75K not enough for a staff tax accountant?
I have difficulties finding one. No CPA required, 100% remote, decent health insurance; and no one is biting. Two main requirements: understanding of income/franchise tax and good Excel (ideally - Power BI and or Alteryx). Does our recruiter suck or do we have unrealistic expectations?
For those of you that started your own business, do you work with an accountant / tax advisor or do you do it yourself? What prices / benefits have you seen?
Can you apply for a per diem tax job besides your full time tax accountant job? Both are public
Can someone explain the tax benefits of an HSA to me like I’m five? Everyone seems to be on the same page with these and as a accountant I’m embarrassed I don’t get it
Currently an A3 in assurance. I have two job offers: senior financial analyst (FP&A role) and senior accountant. Similar pay (a little over 40% raise), similar benefits. Will taking one of the offers limit me to just those types of roles going forward or would there still be an opportunity to do the other later on?
Should post-tax 401k contributions show up on my W2? (I only did post-tax contributions, and got pre-tax gains)
My accountant says yes, but my company’s payroll team says no.
Any advice much appreciated.
So I’m excited I have three pretty solid options 1. Being a trust tax manager at a bank ( I’ve done banking/trust world before)
2. Contract to hire at a private equity firm 3. Staff accountant role at a healthcare company. Thoughts on these options?
Have an offer to leave for industry for a Sr. Accountant role for an F500 that, despite the economy, is growing rapidly. Currently an A3 in the greater Michigan market. CPA. 20% pay bump plus 8% on average bonus thereafter, excluding any future pay increases from promotions. Solid benefits/ retirement match. ESPP. Do I abandon ship?
My programmer wife and I are about to reach 250k/y household income. How do we find a good personal accountant to help us save some money in taxes? We already have a 401k and IRA accounts and no home or children. I feel TurboTax might not be our best option anymore. Advice?
Applied for a government job as an accountant today. Base pay is 40% higher than what I’m making now as an A3, assurance, LCOL. As a matter of fact, base pay is higher than my total comp at PwC (that’s base plus bonus and the value of all benefits). Are government jobs competitive to get into?
Advice needed: looking to leave public accounting and tax for good. I have two offers between a financial analyst and an accountant role. Based on your experience, which of the two has the best/better exit opportunities (should I decide to pursue the finance realm or something else) and better work life balance? The bigger pay as an analyst is tempting, but the company benefits are meh.
Anyone familiar with salary in orange county (SoCal) and LA/El Segundo area? Interviewed for a senior accountant role in a public health care industry in Irvine, but their maximum pay is 85K. I thought Irvine should have pretty good pay too but this surprises me. Even a private Healthcare company in El Segundo pays more than that for the same role but with even lesser experience and easier job duties...
Is this salary too low? I'm @ final interview for senior accountant and job posting said $60-65k. Before you say it's too low right away, my experience is on a low end of this of this role. Just 1 year auditer @ national top 10, 6 months intern at same firm, 1 year accounting intern at local private firm, and 2 years doing AP clerk. I'm a licensed CPA and in MCOL. I really want this title for growth but don't want to get stiffed. It's a large corp w/ great benefits.
Considering 2 industry job offers - #1 is a mid-size software company, $70k + $5k signing bonus. #2 is a mid-size fintech company, $83k. I've been wanting to work for #1 and I like the industry and people better, but am having trouble looking past the pay. For context, I'm a senior 1 making $73k base. Both roles are standard GL accountant roles, and benefits are similar. Would you take a pay cut for a company you wanted to work for?
Hi! Relatively new here. Current employer doesn’t provide a 401K, and former employer is about to shut down their 401K, so I need to transfer that money elsewhere. Any advice as to - where to transfer it, and how best to keep max saving for retirement? My tax accountant suggested doing a 401K via an LLC since a typical IRA has too low a limit. Any advice or suggestions?
When’s a good time to leave PA? An opportunity to join as a senior accountant for one of the top publicly traded companies just came my way and I’m a first year senior. Debating on whether or not to take it. Pay is close to six figures in the pacific north west - close to a 30% pay bump for me and great benefits.
Hi Accountant 🐠!
My friend just received settlement. She is trying to figure out what to do with it. Someone told to open a trust to avoid taxes and impact on her potential benefits <contd>
Im a government accountant, earn about 100k/yr not including retirement and benefits. How much would a company have to offer to consider leaving a gov job?

Hey guys just started with the firm (graduated undergrad this December), and I was wondering if you guys had any basic pointers on personal finance, which funds to select 401k, etc. Thanks!
About health insurance: switching to a different plan next year that only allows for FSA account. My current plan gives me an HSA account. Can I keep my HSA for next year but also have an FSA?
Has anyone had to defend themselves at their firm when coming back from maternity leave? My firm decided to hire an associate (male married with no kids) instead of a per diem to cover my cases.
Guess my pay.
I have 15+ years of experience.
I am an individual contributor. I do not manage people.
I have never been a manager.
My job title is "software engineer".
I have worked at multiple FANG-level companies. Currently at a FANG.

Comment with a number and I'll tell you if my pay was above or below the number.
Question for directors and partners: What are the benefits of becoming a partner other than $$? Do you think a person should love or like their job enough to become a partner? Or being good at is sufficient to drive growth?
I don’t love what I do, but I’m good at it. I’m up for promotion, the leadership likes me and hint me that I can become a partner in a few years. Other than the financial benefit of it, I don’t know if there is anything else excites me. I find it difficult and + CONT BELOW
That moment when your take-home bonus (after tax and 401k) is equal to your gross bonus last year
Can our BCG friends "explain like I'm 5" the difference between applying to BCG/Omnia/Plantinion/etc. (beyond what website says), specifically why someone should want to apply via one vs. the other? E.g. If I have 8 years consulting experience, mostly healthcare but primarily as a "dabbler," but want to optimize alignment (for salary, WLB, etc.)
Those of you who have left PwC before - I’m resigning soon and I anticipate being put on garden leave. What do I need to prior to resigning to ensure I still have access to my 401k/wealth builder money, etc etc?? Appreciate any guidance!
First day of solo paternity leave - this is way harder than I thought! Wish my wife worked we Deloitte for the maternity leave!
I’m curious if anyone else has an issue with communication at your site. I’m a new grad teacher and, while I’ve only been teaching a couple years, I feel communication is key to success? Am I wrong???

Fellow young female FAs— How are you making it in the industry? I am getting burnt out from people not taking me seriously no matter what I do. You’d think being a CFP candidate, dressing professionally, and knowing my stuff would get me there but it doesnt. [more in comments]
Has anyone tried leaving for a remote job?
I love travelling and just want to be able to work from wherever for a year or two.
CPE Question - Recently passed the CMA exams and received the license. I now have both CPA and CMA licenses. I received CPE hours that can count toward the CMA CPE requirement from passing the CMA exams. Wondering if those hours can be counted toward CPA CPE hours. Any information helps! Thank you!

I’m a terminal manager at a logistics company. I’ve been manager there for 1 year. Before that I have 10 years as a lab analyst in food safety and chemical environments. Still at 70k/yr. Wife works too. At this rate FIRE seems impossible. What industries can I leap to to make FIRE more feasible?
