Hey there fellow ESQs,
Having a lot of trouble deciding whether to take new job. Offer- 78k, between 3-4 weeks PTO, 7% 401k up to 12% bonus, senior accountant hybrid 40 min commute. I have 4 years exp. But no cpa. Currently make 70 w unlimited PTO 3% 401k, remote and am fairly miserable but I do like the people I work with.. but also not the happiest at home as I don’t get out much.
Hello! I am graduating in the fall of next year with my B.S. in Accounting. I was offered a staff accountant position to start immediately at a small firm in Central Florida. The salary is $52k per year with decent additional benefits. Is this a good entry level salary?
Anyone have a solo 401k for your LLC? Any insights/watch outs? Do I ask my accountant about setting one up, or do I need to find some kind of investment pro — or can I do it myself thru fidelity or something?
I’ve been looking for a senior accountant (industry role) for a few months now, with not much luck. Most of the applications we receive are for candidates with much more experience than what is required. I was expecting to see a lot of Big4 or mid-tier seniors or associates that are looking to move to industry, especially since the news lately is that PA firms are experiencing attrition at those levels. We’re offering competitive pay and great benefits. What gives?
Is $75K not enough for a staff tax accountant?
I have difficulties finding one. No CPA required, 100% remote, decent health insurance; and no one is biting. Two main requirements: understanding of income/franchise tax and good Excel (ideally - Power BI and or Alteryx). Does our recruiter suck or do we have unrealistic expectations?
For those of you that started your own business, do you work with an accountant / tax advisor or do you do it yourself? What prices / benefits have you seen?
Can you apply for a per diem tax job besides your full time tax accountant job? Both are public
Can someone explain the tax benefits of an HSA to me like I’m five? Everyone seems to be on the same page with these and as a accountant I’m embarrassed I don’t get it
Currently an A3 in assurance. I have two job offers: senior financial analyst (FP&A role) and senior accountant. Similar pay (a little over 40% raise), similar benefits. Will taking one of the offers limit me to just those types of roles going forward or would there still be an opportunity to do the other later on?
Should post-tax 401k contributions show up on my W2? (I only did post-tax contributions, and got pre-tax gains)
My accountant says yes, but my company’s payroll team says no.
Any advice much appreciated.
So I’m excited I have three pretty solid options 1. Being a trust tax manager at a bank ( I’ve done banking/trust world before)
2. Contract to hire at a private equity firm 3. Staff accountant role at a healthcare company. Thoughts on these options?
Have an offer to leave for industry for a Sr. Accountant role for an F500 that, despite the economy, is growing rapidly. Currently an A3 in the greater Michigan market. CPA. 20% pay bump plus 8% on average bonus thereafter, excluding any future pay increases from promotions. Solid benefits/ retirement match. ESPP. Do I abandon ship?
My programmer wife and I are about to reach 250k/y household income. How do we find a good personal accountant to help us save some money in taxes? We already have a 401k and IRA accounts and no home or children. I feel TurboTax might not be our best option anymore. Advice?
Applied for a government job as an accountant today. Base pay is 40% higher than what I’m making now as an A3, assurance, LCOL. As a matter of fact, base pay is higher than my total comp at PwC (that’s base plus bonus and the value of all benefits). Are government jobs competitive to get into?
Advice needed: looking to leave public accounting and tax for good. I have two offers between a financial analyst and an accountant role. Based on your experience, which of the two has the best/better exit opportunities (should I decide to pursue the finance realm or something else) and better work life balance? The bigger pay as an analyst is tempting, but the company benefits are meh.
Anyone familiar with salary in orange county (SoCal) and LA/El Segundo area? Interviewed for a senior accountant role in a public health care industry in Irvine, but their maximum pay is 85K. I thought Irvine should have pretty good pay too but this surprises me. Even a private Healthcare company in El Segundo pays more than that for the same role but with even lesser experience and easier job duties...
Is this salary too low? I'm @ final interview for senior accountant and job posting said $60-65k. Before you say it's too low right away, my experience is on a low end of this of this role. Just 1 year auditer @ national top 10, 6 months intern at same firm, 1 year accounting intern at local private firm, and 2 years doing AP clerk. I'm a licensed CPA and in MCOL. I really want this title for growth but don't want to get stiffed. It's a large corp w/ great benefits.
Considering 2 industry job offers - #1 is a mid-size software company, $70k + $5k signing bonus. #2 is a mid-size fintech company, $83k. I've been wanting to work for #1 and I like the industry and people better, but am having trouble looking past the pay. For context, I'm a senior 1 making $73k base. Both roles are standard GL accountant roles, and benefits are similar. Would you take a pay cut for a company you wanted to work for?
Hi! Relatively new here. Current employer doesn’t provide a 401K, and former employer is about to shut down their 401K, so I need to transfer that money elsewhere. Any advice as to - where to transfer it, and how best to keep max saving for retirement? My tax accountant suggested doing a 401K via an LLC since a typical IRA has too low a limit. Any advice or suggestions?
When’s a good time to leave PA? An opportunity to join as a senior accountant for one of the top publicly traded companies just came my way and I’m a first year senior. Debating on whether or not to take it. Pay is close to six figures in the pacific north west - close to a 30% pay bump for me and great benefits.
Hi Accountant 🐠!
My friend just received settlement. She is trying to figure out what to do with it. Someone told to open a trust to avoid taxes and impact on her potential benefits <contd>
Im a government accountant, earn about 100k/yr not including retirement and benefits. How much would a company have to offer to consider leaving a gov job?
What else can I do with an accounting degree? I want to get out of audit and have no desire to be a staff accountant or financial analyst. 1.5 years of experience. I was thinking benefits consulting?
How are you guys quitting over the holidays? Have a new job that starts jan 4 and I have planned vacation from dec 20-jan 4. 401k match is on dec 31. Want to give 2 weeks to allow for transition (trying to be nice but really don’t care)
Is it still worth putting money into a 401K if you're an expat and don't intend on retiring in the US, or even staying more than a few years? Are there major penalties for cashing in before retirement age?
MS folk - Does the firm offer any services for GMAT prep/ business school? I.e. reimbursement for books, consulting services etc
Hi 🐟. Kinda remember there was a thread about this a while ago, but can't find it. My parents are visiting next month and I'm looking for temporary health insurance. What have you used? (Cont)
KPMG pays 401k contributions in a lump sum payment in February for the prior year, if you are still employed at the time.
I think a better way would be prorated deposits at every pay cycle.
How does your firm make 401k contributions?
Has anyone had to defend themselves at their firm when coming back from maternity leave? My firm decided to hire an associate (male married with no kids) instead of a per diem to cover my cases.
Omnicom folks — give it to me raw: benefits-wise, what’s the whole truth? Medical, PTO, so on and so on. Thanks!
I make 95k a year, paid off all my debt and now have ~40k in savings (not including 401k). Currently living at home and think I want to rent an apartment now. Was looking to buy but I’m not ready/don’t think I make enough to do so in a HCOL area. Take home pay is about $5k after taxes. Is it dumb to get an apartment with $1.8k in rent? I think I can afford it, but curious to hear thoughts from others.
I am promoting to Band 7 in a few weeks. Will IBM begin to automatically match my 401k? It was not matched while I was in the CbD program, but from what I know, they begin matching as a B7?
Staff consultants, how much is your 401k amount saved up? Specifically your % contribution, the number of years you have been contributing, and the amount you have saved up as of now.
Hey fish, I’m coming up on a year post PhD and this job has drained a lot out of me. There’s not a lot I enjoy: overpromising partners, annoying clients, endless iterations (from either client or partner), poorly scoped KOL interviews, long hours… The only reason I haven’t quit is the US healthcare system’s reliance on employer provided insurance. Where can I go with ~1YOE post PhD? It feels like nearly every job requires a lot more and I just don’t have it in me to push through another 1-2y…
State your firms retirement benefits...401k and so on. Accenture is 100% match up to 6%, but only after year 1.
This is my first yr having access to an FSA through my wife’s benefits. Trying to decide on an amount to contribute and it’s tough. We may or may not get pregnant this year and that’s a huge. Cont..
What % do you contribute to your 401k? Should I do more than the company match? Recent grad here trying to adult
Anyone have money management advice? I have a lot saved (no loans, got brother's old car, big CD from family that ends in a few months). I'm putting quite a bit into 401k with the remainder sent to a money market (supposedly high yield) account. It's an awesome problem to have, but I feel like I'm sitting on this money, doing nothing. I have no knowledge of stocks, but getting another CD seems wasteful.
Only big purchase planned is an eventual new car, which I can easily buy.
If you live in a state that has WEP and GPO and you have your 40 quarters you may want to contact your congressmen. The social security fairness act is being voted on next month. Even if you don’t have your own ss, but are married, this will affect survivor benefits. I am not a fan of asking the government for anything free., I have earned this and should get it. I have met full retirement age and can get the ss that I earned. I have started taking it because it reduces to 1/3 in retirement

In general, do you think it is easier or harder to pass HC for a generic type role that requires a team match, etc. (e.g. program mgr, SWE) or for a specific role with designated team from the start?
At present I have cleared technical rounds in the interview and have salary discussion on day after tomorrow. I have applied for manager role. I have total nine years of experience with current CTC: 13LPA.
Please let me know the salary slab for manager role to help me negotiate. Thank you!
To all the men and some woman who have been rude to me, tried to corner me, make me look emotional , talked shit behind my back or taken advantage of my kindness.
Now I am not taking any more of the manipulation.

Do i need to relocate to some other place or can I stay at base location?
One of my best work friends ( was always one position higher than me and much longer with the company) has just become my boss due to an organizational reshuffle. She seems super excited to have me on her team, me, not so much. She’s extremely competent but I feel awkward and am not sure how to navigate the situation since I can no longer talk to her honestly as a peer. I confess I’m also a bit jelly since we’re the same age. Anybody been in a similar situation and has some tips for me?
How much is sufficient in Paris.
And how much should I expect as sr software developer there..?
Is it easier to get a privacy job at a big law firm with litigation/ regulatory experience or tech trans experience?
So I have completely lost interest in my area of practice mainly because I haven’t been exposed to many matters (our team is really slow) and I am the most junior in the team. So billable work is never constant. I feel like this has impacted my interest and stagnated my growth. I am thinking of moving into a different area of practice that I’m interested in. Has anyone ever done this? I’m actually depressed and I really hate being given work now. I have ADHD. Please advise
Has an ALM in Management at Harvard Extension School led you to a career at any high power corporations such as Goldman Sachs?
I have been working with a professor on a research project for 10months, I was promised to be paid over the summer along with two other RAs, only I (only brown girl of the group) haven’t gotten paid because of grant fight with administration. Others were paid from other grants. I absolutely love and adore my professor, any I have learned so much, she’s a great human being. I don’t want to ruin my relationship with her at all. But upon asking a few times she hasn’t given me an answer. What to do
