I’m honestly curious how people max out their 401k and IRA, save an emergency fund, have an expensive car and also a life on a auditor salary. I’m really curious.

Hi all, just found out I’m expecting a little one but I’m nervous about staying in public as I don’t think it’ll be beneficial once the kiddo is born with the late nights of busy season and stresses of the job. Is it worth it to look in industry? If so, would they get angry that I’ll basically go in maternity leave in 9 months? Also, if public is better- why? I just don’t see benefits of being in public anymore. Also, I’ve been a senior auditor for 1 busy season if that helps. Helpppp.

Just switched jobs. Old 401k has more than $5k and new 401k is with a different provider. Is there any reason whatsoever to move the old 401k cash anywhere, either to the new 401k or to an IRA? Given that it's more than $5k, it can stay there indefinitely, right? I'm fine with the investment options with my old 401k. And I can transfer it over to a new IRA or new 401k anytime, even years in the future, right? Given that no distribution will come to force the 60 day rule?

Couple financial questions: 1) what do you do with your 401k when you quit? 2) if you go to grad school and come back above the income limit for Roth IRA, do you leave it where it is to grow?

How does one break into a big agency from a small one? I am confident I can hang creatively at a big shop, but I have a CD title with no direct reports. This always comes up in interviews and I think it’s killing my chances. I lead projects, but I don’t lead a consistent “team” of writers because we don’t have one (I’m a copy-focused CD).
