When does the big firm machine work? Or does it ever? The more you orginate, the more associates you need, the more you cost the firm, etc. Seems like more money more problems. Is there a sweet spot in an Am 200 firm?

No. My problem at my last BigLaw firm was I was not paid more for higher origination and client work because the comp system was promoting a social agenda rather then performance based. So moved to NewLaw and so happy with the freedom, respect and compensation.

Seeing your other posts, I also note that my firm provides necessary support (IT, marketing, liking collections, etc) as well as associate and partner support. Over the past 12 months, I’ve has 20 lawyers from a dozen cities work on my matters. If interested, you may DM me

P1, how big is your book and how much revenue do you bring in on your own time? And how much do you expect to get paid?

You didn’t quite answer the question.

I am really asking what is the "sweet spot"! If you bring in too much, you need too much support like one of the other posts I saw where book was 5 million but she cost the firm close to that and only made 500k. That makes no sense to me. Sr associates at biglaw can easily make 300k or more. That 200k difference equates to 300 percent more stress. And in this market, I have heard of partners with books between 1.2 and 1.5 lateraling and making between 400k to 500k ( of course probably only for first 2 years before the bait and switch happens). I would like to hear from anyone whose happy with their comp and balanced with their workload and stress level. I hope you exist.

Say rate is 850 and 100 percent of my book is self generated. Firm provides platform but nothing more. No collection support. Little to no marketing support. No internal referrals or partner level team work. Clients don't care about firm and are portable. I feel like I either have to find a way for firm to work for me or I need to leave and go to a smaller firm. I should add I am in a specialized and super sexy niche. Personal work effort is about half of my book.

Quick question.
I was a contractor for a big company and they just let me know that my last day is December 30th. I got this position thanks to a recruiting company that has been great and gives me benefits.
Should I:
- Continue working with the recruiting company, hoping that they will find another position for me? (as they told me they will, and when they applied me I started working with my current company within 2 weeks)
- Work with the recruiter + apply for jobs on my own?

I’m applying for a Fundraising manager position and have gone through 4 previous rounds of interviews. It looks promising. I have a “final” interview with the CEO on Friday.
