Any one familiar with comp for a Portfolio Associate roll at PIMCO on their mortgage backed securities team? I’m looking at an offer and want make sure I’m in line with the average comp for the company and industry. Only 4 months of experience and offer is 98k w/ 10-20% bonus plus 15k relo/ sign on. Looking at Glassdoor, bonuses seem higher than quoted by the hiring manager. (No written offer yet they say they’re still working on it)

“Global” roles typically sit as internal cost centres (as opposed to profit centres). As a result, offer no / very limited career trajectory, minimal coaching / learning / mentoring. And near zero / limited accountability. Typically / almost always peripheral (as opposed to core) to the overall business. Rarely / almost never client facing.
The above are facts. No judgement implied.
You decide if the above fits your own career journey.
Good luck!

Looking at a similar option, limited promo or pay rise opportunities for the next 2-3 years. Quite inclined to take it though, don’t think the sales piece of the consulting hustle is my thing.
I think I am built this way too…love doing the gritty consulting day to day work - and whether it’s strategy, design or implementation I don’t mind. However, it’s the Sales side that I get put off by too!
No. No promotion prospects for the rest of your career? Sounds like a bad deal
It would be no promotion whilst I was there for 2-3 years but it itself is a step up/promotion from where I’m at in terms of seniority/visibility.
Really depends in what salary you’re at now. I wouldn’t mind staying at 120k for awhile with no promotion prospects, wouldn’t do it if I’m at the start of my career at 50k.

Yes, my impression is also that SM at PwC is equivalent to M in many other places.

will you be learning? gotta be learning or earning or ideally both
Assuming the role is better WLB as well and in an industry/area that could be a good stepping stone, I’d probably go for it. However I’d start looking for the next opportunity around the 1 year mark, and the entire time there focus on projects that will support my cv for next job search.
If it’s not in the area you want to pursue after or it’s going to be a lot more work, then don’t take it
