When you do interviews, you should come across as being excited at the opportunity to work for the company. But if you come across as too excited, it might be perceived as you’re desperate, and that could be a turnoff for the interviewer. It’s like when you ask a woman out on a date but you’re too eager and she senses you’re desperate and turns you down. What would you advise as to how to come across as being excited about the job, but not too excited and desperate?

I once had someone give me some interviewing advice that related to that. He said not to appear too excited, but try to exude an air of cool confidence. Try not to come off as arrogant, but give the impression that you are capable and the company would be fortunate to have you working for it. What he was saying made sense to me, but I'm not sure I really ever pulled it off completely. But it seems like kind of a North Star to aim for.

I'm a younger plaintiff's side attorney (31). Does anyone else feel like white attorneys give you a particularly harder time? Like unreasonably denying clear facts, or trying to fish for a way to sanction you? Usually it's solo defense attorneys that get extreme with it, but I've seen some questionable stuff from BigLaw too. Hopefully I'm not the only one.
