Seems like the “Financial Analyst” role is just a new title for Accountant. I’m on my third interview for a Senior Financial Analyst position but the job description seems to be a mixture of both general accounting activities but also financial statement analysis. Is this a trap? Or is it truly a hybrid finance/accounting role?
Is Senior Accountant to Sr Financial Analyst reasonably possible? I'm having a hard time selling my audit experience to a Finance hiring manager who doesn't have PA experience or their CPA. I'm thinking if I do a Sr Accountant role for 1-3 years I would be more marketable for a Sr Financial Analyst position. Thoughts? Seems like most Financial Analyst positions want forecasting experience and some of the Sr Accountant roles I've seen mention that as a job duty.
What’s a good salary for a senior financial analyst position in NYC/NJ at a media company or music label to ask for?
Anyone seen a successful move from risk to FP&A? I do have the CPA but haven't had much luck. Going to a more traditional financial analyst (aka accounting and financial reporting) role seems doable but FP&A really wants the modeling background that I don't have. Maybe I should just settle so I can get out of risk.
Got offered a financial analyst position with better pay and better work life balance but it’s in the retail industry. Should I take it? With the volatility of retail and all.

How common is it for recruiters to misrepresent jobs to people like us? I had one sell me on a senior financial analyst role and was super pumped about it. Later last night was digging and come to find out it’s a SEC Reporting Analyst role, nothing like what I want and the duties are totally different.
Have any of you left for a typical financial analyst gig in industry? I chose tax because I don’t like GL accounting, but was presented a good role in industry. Most of me thinks I’m going to be miserable and should hair stay in PA. I’m a salesman by nature and love the client side of my job, just don’t like the technical aspects and poor pay. Any advice?

Dont waste your time doing IB and find some other job where you are valued after 5-7 years of experience. I have close to 9 years of experience in IB and I decided to migrate to Canada after that. Now i am facing a common phenomenon in my job applications. Either they say i am over qualified or they say how will I bring Canadian clients. I tried to change course of my career by applying for financial analyst / FP&A role but of no success. IB doesnt teach beyond PPT / Excel. Feel depressed.

I’m interested in learning a business/industry and not just looking at records. INTP here with 5+ years in consulting. For my personality type, I should have been in a lab or writing code somewhere with minimal interaction but I am have been out here “managing stakeholders and sucking up to demon partners/clients“. Should I stay or should I go get my masters in computer science/data science so that I would get to do what I am really comfortable with? Will not get to be in a leadership role in future it I think that’s okay..
I’ve only been working for 8 months but I really hate it, I know everyone says you shouldn’t leave before making senior but has anyone else jumped before a S.postion? What kind of exit opportunities?

Trigger warning: abusive relationship ISO advice on addressing a (very) bad undergrad year due to abuse in personal essay. I’m taking on my MBA as I was laid off due to COVID-19 and the market is tight out there right now. One thing that’s always held me back is that I had a horrible senior year, which killed my otherwise stellar GPA. I was in a dangerous abusive relationship that year and was lucky to even make it out. I did graduate and now, 10 yrs later, I have a strong resume behind me.

I’m on a federal project right now. My client is actually a terrible human being. He picks apart the smallest things, and is very condescending towards me. I started on this project a month ago, and every time I’m presenting something (now remotely), he interjects and says something snide. I’m all for constructive criticism, but many of times he’s let out a huge sigh after I introduce why we’re having the meeting or corrects my language. I once thanked him for his helpful feedback, and he cont.
