Working at the city level has been a real eye-opener—politics influences everything, from what projects get prioritized to how we communicate with the public. I get that politics is baked into public service, but I didn’t expect it to shape so many of our day-to-day decisions. Does anyone else wish there was less politics in government work, or is it just part of the charm we learn to live with?

Incoming junior-level consultant wants to know what is “billable hour”.
Once in a while I see discussions around billable hours, but I don’t know how that works. After googling, it appears to me that billable hour only matters to me if my salary is paid by hours. Since I will receive a fixed annual salary, does this mean that I don’t need to worry about the concept of billable hours?
A related questions: generally speaking, is the bonus related to the hours that I worked?
